Therapy works in part because of the trusting relationship that is formed between the therapist and the client. That's where the real healing takes place.
I use an eclectic blend of different types of therapies but I am especially drawn to existential therapy and psychoanalytic psychotherapy because they provide a pathway into ourselves and method for understanding more about who we really are.
