Hi. My name is Dr. Sharon Walker. I am a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience in the field. I think of counseling as a team effort that requires a trusting relationship between the client and the therapist. The focus of therapy is on the client and the issues they are confronting. I have helped clients with many different issues through the years and consider myself a generalist with no particular specialty areas.
My basic therapeutic approach is client-centered, which places an emphasis on the client's needs and goals. I do not judge people since I believe that everyone is doing the best they can at any moment in time. If something is not working in their life, we can explore ways for them to make changes in the problem areas.
Setting goals for the therapeutic process is a collaborative effort between the client and the therapist with the client’s needs and desires for change taking priority. These goals become the centerpiece around which various understandings and insights evolve. Goals may change through the course of treatment.
