To me, there is no ideal client. I am comfortable working with clients that have a wide variety of issues, needs, and goals. I typically work with clients between the ages 13-45 yrs old that have come in with all unique struggles. I would prefer to work with clients that are open minded and willing to build a positive therapeutic relationship in order to allow both of us to guide each other towards your goals.
I've had experience of working in a psychiatric hospital; focusing primarily on teenagers under dcfs custody that are without placement. Adolescents that come from severe trauma and remain in the hospital for months at a time due to having no place to go. I've also worked at length with teens & adults struggling with anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, etc.
Communication is one of the most important yet overlooked aspect of mental health. How one communicates with themselves, and others, is a key factor in the issues everyone struggles with daily. When one feels invalidated by others they tend to look within themselves for answers, & usually that is where the harshest opinion about one lies. Self-care is first
