A sister, daughter, wife, and mother to three incredible humans of differing needs and identities, I have experience beyond my practice years with anxiety, depression, autism, attention deficit, interpersonal violence, and sexual abuse.
My mission is to create a safe, calm, inclusive, and nonjudgmental therapeutic space. As an embodied listener, I am honored to hold others’ stories in confidence and help uncover their deeply held understanding and expertise of their lives from a strengths-based perspective. I am exceptionally awed at the incremental freedom that comes from engaging stories of harm, trauma, and abuse. The beauty freedom produces led me to seek certification in narrative-focused trauma therapy.

Life is a journey with unexpected challenges and changes, but it is also full of opportunities for growth and self-discovery. While some people struggle with fear and anxiety related to life transitions, others may struggle with feeling stuck in their lives, permanently on "autopilot" and feeling powerless to make a change. I am here to join you on a path of self-reflection and positive change, so that you can discover your inner strengths and build a life more congruent with your true values and goals.

Having personally benefited from participation in psychoanalysis, I can say as a patient and a clinician that psychotherapy is transformational. Through the process of becoming more conscious and adopting a broader, deeper perspective of Self, events, and existence, we express our uniqueness. This is individuation; an interesting and exciting journey where new vistas of opportunity begin to open from within. Reassuringly, we already possess inside everything we need for change to occur.

If you have been in therapy before and are looking for something that can assist in healing on a deeper level look no further. You may be looking for a therapy experience where you can explore your own individual life path, where you can get to and heal the root of your relationship issues, your depression, your anxiety, your childhood wounding, and/or your pain. You may be ready to understand and change the long standing patterns that are negatively affecting your life and to finally truly understand why you feel, think, and behave the way you do, heal those issues, and create the life you truly desire.

We all have the power to create happiness in our life. Sometimes we just need help figuring out how to overcome the obstacles, internal and external, that keep us stuck. Therapy doesn't start and end after our session, it moves beyond the safety of my office as you begin to feel successful managing life independent of the therapy. I am a warm, accepting and passionate therapist, dedicated to helping people move through challenges to live happier, healthier lives.

To me, there is no ideal client. I am comfortable working with clients that have a wide variety of issues, needs, and goals. I typically work with clients between the ages 13-45 yrs old that have come in with all unique struggles. I would prefer to work with clients that are open minded and willing to build a positive therapeutic relationship in order to allow both of us to guide each other towards your goals.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
