I enjoy working with individuals, teens, and athletes. I like to work with people whom are willing to look at their entire life balance as part of their treatment plan in counseling. I believe in utilizing a holistic approach to create balance in one's life, which will help manage mental health symptoms they may be experiencing. I feel that if an individual is wanting to make sustainable changes and improve their mental health, it is important to look at the entire lifestyle and not just one area.

I identify primarily as a person-centered counselor, striving to maintain a congruent and empathic approach, all while viewing the client as capable experts on themselves. I also recognize the difficult times we currently live in and acknowledge how systems and circumstances greater than ourselves can contribute to daily distress. I also enjoy exploring life’s larger, existential questions and helping clients find their own meaning in life. Through a gentle, curious, and transparent approach, I collaborate with clients to form a strong therapeutic relationship.

Do you ever feel like you would like to talk to someone who will listen without judgment and could help? Only you can tell your story. I am here to be a support system for you to talk through any situation you might be facing. It can be so hard to open up to someone new. In an age where everyone is connected through electronics, it is easy to feel lost and alone even when surrounded by what feels like so many people. I can help you and your family learn how to gain needed supports. It's time to take care of your mental health and start to feel better with someone who cares and will be a consistent source of encouragement.

I'm most passionate about Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and working with women, people who experience depression, and those who have a history of abuse/neglect/domestic violence/placement in foster care.
It is often difficult to explain exactly what therapy is and to best describe a therapist's approach. I like to think of therapy as looking at what has scraped you up emotionally, cleaning out that wound, and then healing so you can live a healthier and happier life. As to my approach clients, parents, and coworkers have described me as honest, kind, compassionate, nonjudgmental, interpersonal, solution focused, collaborative, and someone who will call you on your crap.

I’m glad that you are here and taking the first step. It is my goal to make this process less intimating and more predictable. You can expect therapy to be messy, uncomfortable, and challenging at times. However, it balances with healing and can be so freeing. Many of my clients worry that people will reject or abandon them. They struggle with relationships (platonic or romantic) or feel like they can’t seem to have a healthy relationship no matter what they try. They often feel “different’ or disconnected from others or think that others do not understand them. They have trouble relying on family and friends or asking for help.

Even though the rights of women have come a long way, women continue to be overworked, overwhelmed, and spend most of their days doing things for others instead of caring for themselves.
I provide a nonjudgmental, healing relationship with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, as well as those who have been abused as a child or adult. I help clients process repeating negative memories and self-judgment to achieve a positive sense of self, self-esteem, and confidence. By accepting who we are and what has happened to us, we can learn to be assertive for self and in relationships.

I believe the physiological effects of depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and grief are real, and the path to healing may look different for everybody. In addition to more traditional approaches to counseling, treatment might include yoga and other mindfulness practices that will improve your ability to process difficult experiences, and increase your capacity to cope with a wider range of sensations and experiences in everyday life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
