Change only happens when we get outside of our comfort zone. Maybe you're a parent looking for someone to help your child regulate their emotions. Maybe you're an adult looking for someone to hear your story and offer a safe place to resolve internal conflicts to move forward. Maybe you're a couple or family who wants to know better ways to communicate and feel connected once again.

I enjoy working with children and adults.I have twenty years of experience in the mental health field. I know it's difficult to make that decision to ask for help.My job is to put you at ease, really listen, and help you find a way to move forward, whether that means resolving an issue from the past; changing a behavior or creating a plan for the future. My goal is to improve your quality of life. What's most important is the what happens outside therapy. The best client is ready and willing to make that change.

The idea of counseling can be intimidating. The thought of being vulnerable and sharing significant life experiences with a stranger can be downright overwhelming. I get it! My goal at Adams Clinical Services, LLC is to provide a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for each person. The dynamic between myself and the individuals that I work with is very important because it helps to foster the relationship of trust and support. I will work with you to navigate through traumatic experiences, intrusive, self-defeating thoughts, overwhelming anxiety and the ebb and flow of symptoms created by life stressors.

I currently provide counseling services to teens, young adults, and adults.
Hey there, I'm Jess. I support and empower individuals as they grow through healing. When was the last time that you truly felt like yourself? Have you been feeling trapped, stuck, or stagnant? If so, it may be time to think about talking to a counselor. Life is complex, complicated, and sometimes overwhelming. Oftentimes we get into the unhelpful habit of putting our needs on the back-burner so that we can focus on the fast-paced present. Counseling is an opportunity to expand your mind, self-reflect, practice gratitude, heal, slow down, rest, and recharge. It’s an opportunity to end harmful cycles, habits, beliefs, and behaviors.

I am here, for you. You are not alone! At this point in my career, I do not have an ideal client. I hope my future does not hold a picture of an ideal client. I only hope you are willing to develop a mutual relationship based on understanding, compassion, honesty and effort. I am here as an evolving professional and moreover, an evolving and ever-changing human being. I am here in this role to learn from you as much as you are here to learn from me. In order for you to be your best, I promise to bring my best self to every moment that we share. As Richard Alpert said, "The art of a Therapist is the work on oneself."

I’m Christine and I have suffered both anxiety and depression that started in my adolescent years.
Do you or your daughter struggle with anxiety? Depression? What about all the life stressors from this last year? Do you want a safe place for your adolescent daughter to share her struggles without judgment but with acceptance? Do you need a place to come and work things out with a trusting, interested and supportive person? As the human race, we have had many losses and stressors over the last year, and it’s okay to reach out for support and help.

Morrissey only wants the best for the children and teens he sees.
Are you struggling to get through to your child? Are you dealing with daily meltdowns and outbursts from young children? Is there a sudden lack of interest in school and activities from your adolescent? Is your child or teen easily stressed, triggered, or angered? Is there a lot of anxiety or focusing issues concerning school?

As a counseling staff member at Winthrop University, I have extensive experience working with college students, though my practice gladly accepts all teen and adult/couples clients.
The basis of my practice is rooted in the promise of hope. I believe that we are all capable of moving toward healthier versions of ourselves that can result in more functional emotional responses, deeper, more satisfying relationships, and redeemed living. My goal is to be a helper that provides a safe place to begin to move toward positive change. I partner well with individuals and couples who are tired of dealing with dysfunction and are motivated to work toward being a better version of themselves.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
