Whether it's improving communication, resolving conflicts, or strengthening relationships, we will do it all together! I’ve worked extensively with relational complexities, eating disorders, addiction, trauma, mood disorders, and the impact these have on relationships.
With over 14 years of experience, I have spent my career helping individuals, couples, and families work through life’s ups and downs. I believe the most important part of therapy is the connection between the therapist and client. As a team, we will work together to explore areas of your life and relationships that aren’t bringing you the fulfillment you deserve.

I understand the complexity of Eating Disorders from both the patient and the carer position.
Having been in recovery myself, I feel that I offer a unique therapeutic experience. Eating disorders such as; Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and other unspecified eating disorders, are complicated. They effect not only the patient, but the entire family. I work closely with client and family to offer hope and support. Eating Disorders are not a choice. Recovery is individualized to meet the needs of the client. I am here not to tell one how to recover but to be the support to put the Eating Disorder behind and life's experiences first.

Our teens, twenties & thirties are transitional years of growth, clarity, & exploration. My work focuses on empowering motivated college aged & young adult women as they identify who they are, what is important to them, and how to live a life where they feel fulfilled, connected, and energized. These formative years can feel equally scary and exciting, especially when you throw in some stress & anxiety, relational challenges, and/or eating disorders & body image distress. The great news though, is that you don't have to figure it out alone! I also have a personal passion for supporting equestrians with their mental health needs.

I have a strong background in treating those suffering from eating disorders, substance use, body image issues, and all that can come along with these disorders, such as anxiety, PTSD, and depression.
Life can throw us some curve balls, and sometimes, when trying to deal with these curve balls, we struggle to find ways to cope. For some, coping through food and/or substance use is one of the ways that people try to cope through life challenges. For others it can be isolating, self-harming, or numbing yourself to feelings all around. These coping mechanisms only work for so long, until they don't work anymore, and end up hurting you. Sometimes these maladaptive coping skills only impact you, but often times, others close to you are hurting as well... your spouse, significant other, parents, siblings, and friends.

Some of my areas of specialty include eating disorders working at Silver Hill hospital and The Renfrew Center.
They say that life should have purpose, and for the past 25 years working as a Marriage and Family Therapist has been mine. My approach is eclectic because everyone is an individual so my work is tailored to you and your specific needs, though I do practice cognitive behavioral therapy (what you think is what you feel) solution focused therapy and a holistic approach of mind, body and spirit teaching proper nutrition (certified weight management specialist) and yoga (certified yoga instructor) as a form of spirituality helping you to get centered and find balance in this hectic world of responsibilities and stressors.

I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders, body image concerns, anxiety and depression in both adolescents (age 14+) and adults with a focus on creating wrap around care and support throughout the entire process.
I am here to guide you through the uncomfortable parts of life both present and past, sit in them with you and work together to find a way through. I bring a straightforward approach and will push you to explore places of yourself you may want to run from. I believe therapeutic treatment should consist of a mutually respectful relationship between myself as the provider, and you as the client, in which we work together to confront the underlying beliefs and experiences that have brought you to therapy. I am also familiar with working in conjunction with local school districts to provide additional support for student mental health.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
