I have specialized experience in working with mood disorders, as well as with adolescent behavioral issues (such as conduct disorders).
Hi! I'm so glad you are here! One of the best things about being a therapist is the opportunity to empower you, to make you feel strong and heard, and to give you the tools to excel. I want you to feel welcomed and open to communicating feelings and emotions. I strive to provide you comfort and safety and be the listening ear you need. My job is not to judge you or let preconceived notions or beliefs hinder progression, but rather uplift you and set a positive foundation for a healthy therapeutic relationship. Together, we will use therapeutic styles to rework negative thinking and explore emotions and feelings.

As a Social Worker, my experience with children diagnosed with autism, behavioral concerns, developmental disabilities and their families is extensive.
Struggling with your child's behavior? Is the behavior causing tension within the household? Behavioral issues are difficult and can cause tension within the entire family. If the behavior or family concerns are not managed, the relationships in the family can deteriorate. I leverage your family’s strengths to grow the bonds between all members. I help children, teens, and young adults understand and manage life concerns. I provide support to parents and couples dealing with difficulties within their lives and family.

I primarily practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps patients with patterns of thinking and acting that get in their way.
You've started looking for a therapist because something is getting in the way of your leading the life you want: worsening anxiety, a life event, feeling down, stuck or unhappy. I offer individualized counseling based on the personality, needs and goals of my patients. I don't judge. I will be your biggest cheerleader to help you overcome whatever hurdles are in your way. Everyone wants to lead life to the fullest, and we should feel worthy of that life. All too often I hear patients say, "I don't deserve.." or "I'm not good enough." We get trapped in comparing ourselves to others and hearing past messages of discouragement.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy to work with many issues including anxiety, depression, substance abuse, parent/child relationships, relationship issues, trauma, and chronic sickness.
I bring a sense of humor and compassion to my work with clients. Your issues may, of course, be serious, but sometimes humor can help bring needed perspective. I provide counseling as well as life coaching. I realize some people are stuck in a rut and just need just 5-10 sessions to get going. Other people might be interested in a more long term approach. I can work with you either way. I realize that you might feel apprehensive about the counseling process, so I have incorporated an easygoing style that greatly helps to reduce people's sense of unease. I want to get to know you so we can get working!

Behavioral Issues Therapists
What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?
No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.
What therapy types help with behavioral issues?
Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.
How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?
Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.
How effective is therapy for behavior issues?
Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
