I work well with people who suffer from substance use disorders, PTSD, anxiety, depression etc.
Navigating through trauma can leave you feeling let down, emotionally unstable, unable to sleep or stop the constant negative thoughts, and emotionally overwhelmed; with little to no understanding of what to do next. You may wonder what it feels like be “normal” not to scan the room for what may be lurking to harm you, to have fun and be happy, to just have a good relationship with your partner, to date again? I believe insight/education plus a plan of action makes for positive changes.

Regardless of the reason someone may come to me for therapy, I believe that each person is unique and must be treated as an individual. Even though the "problem" gets the person in the door, it is often a symptom of deeper pain. I believe that I provide a nonjudgmental, compassionate setting that people need in order to look inside and gain a better understanding and acceptance of themselves, both their strengths and challenges. I "partner" with my clients to help them formulate realistic goals and give them feedback and encouragement as they strive to make positive changes.

Eveyone should be able to live a life that leaves them excited to wake up every morning. One of the bravest things anyone can do is begin to understand their story and find their purpose. My door is open for those who need someone to really hear them and point them in the right direction.

I have personal experience with addiction, and have a soft spot for people who are trudging the road of recovery.
My ideal clients are individuals and couples who are struggling with life and relationship issues, those suffering with career burnout and compassion fatigue (healthcare workers, law enforcement, veterans, etc), those dealing with identity issues, those who have had traumatic/abusive pasts or are in crisis now, and addiction. I desire to use my innate capacity for authentic empathy to enter into another's pain. I listen to their story, help them understand themselves better and find balance. I can help clients to reclaim or define their real identity with the goal of finding meaning and purpose amidst suffering and struggle.

Whether you are dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, or relationship issues, I warmly welcome you to reach out and take the first steps toward a new, clearer, and more satisfying life.
Do you feel trapped in a story that you don't like? Do you feel powerless, misunderstood, or lacking in some way? So much of what we experience is the result of the stories we believe about ourselves. Often, we don't examine these stories to see if they're true. I want to help you break through to a more genuine understanding of yourself. We'll look for your strengths, abilities, and true interests and we'll work to discover how you can rise above the limitations you currently perceive. I have years of experience successfully coaching people with anxiety, mental health challenges and addictions. I'd be honored to work with you.

I work with survivors of trauma and childhood abuse, those with PTSD, and addictions. Abuse and trauma leaves a lasting impact on your body and can create symptoms like anxiety, depression, substance abuse, troubled relationships, and insomnia. Is it difficult to function in day-to-day life or do you feel like you just can't get it together? You may be feeling lost, hopeless, stuck, and afraid. Therapy provides a time to be understood and heard in a safe, confidential place. We all have strengths and the answers inside of us, but sometimes we need help peeling back the layers. I understand this because I am a survivor of trauma too.

I have a wide range of experience in different areas, including recovery from substance abuse, trauma, adolescents and anxiety/mood disorders.
I love to work with those who are struggling and trying to find their way. Though I'm trained in addressing a wide scope of concerns, I particularly enjoy helping individuals in late adolescence and early adulthood overcome obstacles and build independence as they pursue personal and vocational goals. It is a great joy to see my clients work toward the life they want.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
