Changes and challenges are an unavoidable part of life. Maybe you are managing a difficult life transition, coping with stress or anxiety, overcoming depression, or restoring a relationship with a loved one—whatever the difficulty, therapy can offer clarity and direction. Sometimes getting help makes the journey less lonely and confusing. Therapy is a collaboration between counselor and client and together we will figure out how best to help you.

As a counselor, it is my job to provide a confidential and non-judgmental environment. I understand that sometimes life can be overwhelming, and it can feel like no one understands your strife. For example, are you going through a breakup? Feeling depressed or grieving the loss of a loved one? I can help. Since counseling is not a one size fits all approach, I use a combination of therapeutic strategies for best results. Each client will receive an initial assessment to gather diagnostic and treatment planning information.

I am deeply motivated and inspired by witnessing others become the best versions of themselves. I believe that the life experiences that I have had lend to my ability to empathize and help heal my clients. I primarily use a combination of EMDR Therapy, Somatic Therapy and Ego State Therapy in my therapeutic approach. I also have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which emphasizes the connection between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We will work together to learn skills to center the body and calm the mind.

A client is someone who actively participates in the therapeutic process with openness, honesty, and a sincere commitment to personal growth. This individual is ready to explore and reflect on their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, fostering a collaborative relationship with me as their therapist. My clients embrace the therapeutic journey and are dedicated to making positive changes in their lives. Throughout my career, I have also worked extensively with the immigrant community, which has given me a deeper understanding of their unique needs. I am fluent in Spanish, allowing me to connect with clients in a meaningful way.

You have a captivating story. It's true! One of the biggest influences on our life stories is our relationships. A leading therapist states, “The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.” Sometimes it becomes difficult to enjoy our relationships or the fullness of our lives. Maybe the people and places that are supposed to be the safest (family, home, school, church) have brought stress or frustration. It is helpful to understand the impact of our past experiences. I would love to learn about your story, past and present, to hear your dreams for your future, and to offer you a safe space to talk about life.

You're on autopilot and struggling to maintain the kind of relationships you want. You are facing challenges with a partner, parent, sibling, child, or friend. You recognize you have unmet needs from your childhood or past relationships and it has created dysfunctional relationship patterns. You feel your emotions bubbling on the surface because all you want in life is to be happy. You're exhausted because you invested so much time, and energy communicating to be left feeling rejected. You have been told you communicate too much, or not enough. Your boundaries are violated and you feel this is never-ending.

My ideal client is typically an individual or family seeking clarity and understanding through comprehensive testing. They may be a parent concerned about their child’s academic performance, behavioral challenges, or developmental milestones, or they could be an adult seeking a better understanding of their own cognitive or learning differences. Their needs include a thorough evaluation that not only identifies any potential learning or developmental disorders but also provides a clear plan for intervention and support.

Change only happens when we get outside of our comfort zone. Maybe you're a parent looking for someone to help your child regulate their emotions. Maybe you're an adult looking for someone to hear your story and offer a safe place to resolve internal conflicts to move forward. Maybe you're a couple or family who wants to know better ways to communicate and feel connected once again.

I offer Perinatal/Postpartum counseling for parents, anxiety disorders, and learning disorders. My own experience of entering motherhood was followed by a diagnosis of a postpartum mental health disorder. I realized quickly that the social safety net for women and families post-childbirth is lacking and needed more readily accessible entities to help. Becoming a parent brings up unresolved childhood issues, personal insecurities, and cracks in relationship dynamics. Confronting those issues can feel overwhelming on top of wading through a mental health condition. Counseling is integral to recovery and actually enjoying parenthood.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
