Depression Therapists in Irmo, SC
Throughout our lives we collect memories and experiences and sometimes we just need space; space to breathe, process, exist - let's see what we can do with the space provided for you. Someone who would come to see me might be experiencing transitional periods, anxiety, relationship conflicts, grief, or trying to reconnect and understand themselves more. For whatever reason you are seeking out therapy, I hope you find a therapist who helps you when you are ready.

Mental health is steadily gaining global recognition. Fortunately, with exposure comes greater access to treatment for those with mental health concerns. Unfortunately, the flip-side to increased exposure is standardization; society is quick to turn to diagnoses and labels to simplify the complexities of human beings. Although diagnoses can be helpful, it is important to remember: you are not just not a label or a diagnosis. With Cal Hilsman at Compassionate Acceptance for Life (CAL), you will find a therapist that prizes each client as unique and encourages self exploration beyond the standard internet search.

Let's face it - life is challenging. Taking the first step to reach out and ask for help can be difficult. When we struggle with mental health, relational issues and/or substance use/misuse, it is easy to feel inadequate and wonder if things will ever get better. Although you may have found yourself in patterns that you do not like, you have the power to change them. You have strengths to help you create a life inspired by what's most important to you and deal with life’s challenges in a more effective way.

Are you ready to stop hiding from your pain and start healing? Uncover that mind-body connection that helps you better understand your thoughts, emotions and behaviors. You are not a bad person for not always understanding your feelings. You are not a burden for having a bad day and just needing someone to listen to you. I know that you are trying and that’s what matters most.

Despite mental health becoming less stigmatizing over recent years, the fact remains that most are still uncomfortable discussing this area of their life. Yet, at some point, we all experience adverse emotional responses. The reasons for this may differ- a trauma, a health crisis, a painful childhood, or even a difficult transition. Life events such as these, coupled with our genetic predisposition and environment, often leave us feeling alone, confused, and stuck. My mission is to help people find their strength to get on their feet, find their path, and even thrive in a new way moving forward.

I was born in Romania and came to the USA in 2004. As a result, I’m adding a multicultural approach the great journey of the therapeutic process. I have a degree as a special education teacher and have worked for 10 years with a specialty in emotionally disabled children. I also worked as a licensed psychologist in the Romanian Army. Unfortunately, the psychology degree did not transfer in the USA, so I decided to go back to school, pursuing a clinical social work degree at USC. I enjoy working with adults, seniors and families on a variety of issues such as parenting, trauma, complex PTSD, and high functioning autism.

Life is often hard, no matter who you are. The story of our lives are filled with moments and seasons of challenge, change, and confusion. Life is filled with many deeply transformative experiences, for both good and bad. Thus, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Especially if we feel like there are few people who can offer meaningful help. Fortunately, life also offers significant positive growth and healing opportunities. These opportunities can create a pathway, orienting us toward the direction we want to go. That's when we begin to better position ourselves to experience the outcomes in life we hope to achieve.
