I am an interpersonal therapist who worked for 4 years in a college counseling center and have been working out of my private practice since 2010. While my overarching approach is interpersonal, I utilize other theories as needed. Cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and emotionally focused therapy are examples of the other schools from which I pull. Clients are not a "one size fits all." Before becoming a therapist, I taught school for twenty years. I feel fortunate to have been able to work in two especially gratifying helping fields.

It’s my joy to assist people as they find their way to balance, wholeness and a life that is meaningful to them and in line with their values. It is my belief that life brings all of us situations that are challenging, whether slightly difficult or seemingly insurmountable. During these times it can be helpful to have someone present with us and truly hear us, for being truly seen and heard, in and of itself, can be healing and therapeutic. I seek to help my clients gain awareness, understanding, and clarity as they go through challenges and find new ways to navigate life that are appropriate for them and align with their values.

If you decided to start therapy today, and you feel that you are being heard for the first time. There is someone helping you understand your experiences, your hardship, your thoughts and your feelings. How different would you feel, and be? I focus on emotions, attachment, and experience and how it has affected your mental health. I work through emotions with my clients and help them find their sense of self, vulnerability, and emotional balance. I help individuals understand their experiences and feelings that they have, and I sit in those moments and process and grow with them.

As a therapist I believe in coming along side another and providing the support that is needed to move forward and be comfortable with being you. I believe that everyone deserves to have a safe space to process, not be judged, and receive support. I understand how it feels to be misunderstood and to want to move forward and not know the first step.

You’re tired of waking up with cement on your chest. It’s hard to breathe. You’re exhausted before you even get out of bed, and when you do, you’re walking on eggshells in your own home. The isolation is mentally and physically exhausting. Friends don’t understand you, and your family can’t relate. As you become further isolated, you grow resentful, bitter, and angry.

Throughout our lives we collect memories and experiences and sometimes we just need space; space to breathe, process, exist - let's see what we can do with the space provided for you. Someone who would come to see me might be experiencing transitional periods, anxiety, relationship conflicts, grief, or trying to reconnect and understand themselves more. For whatever reason you are seeking out therapy, I hope you find a therapist who helps you when you are ready.

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
