I have a person-centered, relational, and eclectic style for counseling and believe building rapport and trust is the cornerstone for getting to some of the tougher issues. I try to give clients something they can take with them after a session (like a certain coping technique to practice), especially in the beginning when things can feel overwhelming. Once my clients are comfortable, I utilize tools such as practicing emotional regulation, role playing, etc. and integrating other techniques like art, ego state, EMDR-whatever the client needs most at that time.
In have worked in mental health since 2011 when I completed an undergrad internship at a psychosocial rehabilitation program and fell in love with the field. Prior to counseling, I most recently served as the Program Director at a private residential facility for teen girls.
