I enjoy working with people of all ages as they face life's challenges. Everybody struggles from time to time with worry, sadness, anger, and fear. Family difficulties, low self-esteem, problems in relationships, and school and work stress are common. When these issues persist over time, then psychotherapy can be helpful. I believe that a warm, caring, and trusting connection between the therapist and client is a necessary foundation before improvement can occur. We start with a consultation where I will listen carefully and sensitively to your concerns, and then offer you a therapeutic approach that will best help you achieve your goals.
Our work is collaborative: together we explore and expand upon your strengths at the same time we are addressing the sources of your difficulties. I integrate approaches, such as psychodynamic (which promotes self-understanding) and cognitive-behavioral (which focuses on strategies for treating the symptoms). I also draw from family systems, humanistic, and mindfulness theories.
In addition to providing psychotherapy, I am a seasoned parent consultant when therapy is either not indicated- or not welcomed- by the child or teen. I have many years of experience leading discussion groups for parents that focus on a variety of topics related to child, adolescent, and emerging adult development.
