I enjoy working with clients that are motivated to transform themselves into a new way of being. Learning how to be happy rather than just not feeling depressed. I like to help my clients improve their quality of life through transformational psychology. I intertwine spiritual practices including meditation, visualization, intuitive counseling, and reiki healing. The primary conditions I treat are Anxiety Disorders, including PTSD, Depression, Stress Management, and Bi Polar Disorder. LGBTQIA is amongst my favorite populations to work with.

Do you love someone who is struggling with the disease of addiction? Do you feel alone, terrified, angry, or worried? Are you riding a roller coaster daily? Does the idea of setting boundaries baffle you? Is your mental energy depleted as you are preoccupied with your person 24/7? Do you feel lost on how to help your family heal? Does the term 'Detach With Love' strike terror in you? When I worked in the Family Program at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, loved ones constantly shared a desire for someone to come alongside them on their journey. I do precisely this with my company, Embrace Family Recovery LLC.

I believe that we all have the potential to feel and live better, even if life circumstances are challenging. Many people find it difficult to feel confident and self assured, have peaceful, fulfilling relationships, navigate the demands of family, work, and home, and also focus on nourishing self care. These challenges are interconnected and are related to how we have developed our sense of self in the context of our family's expectations, our experiences, societal demands, cultural assumptions, and media influence. It's necessary to learn new ways to live our best lives in these particular circumstances. You are not alone.

Many of my clients find that people pleasing and trying to be perfect all the time are no longer working for them. They struggle to set boundaries, communicate assertively and get in touch with how they feel and what they need. Maybe you're tired and confused by conflicting mental health tips on social media? You need a safe and compassionate environment to dig into some of the trauma you've experienced without being overwhelmed by it. Or maybe you're a millennial parent navigating reparenting yourself while parenting your children and you need some support. My clients prefer a therapist who is warm, real and uses humor in session.

We can sometimes get stuck in negative ways of thinking after a difficult life event, a strained family dynamic, or the loss of a relationship. Clients often come to me with thoughts like “I will never be good enough” or “I have to be perfect to succeed.” You may turn to dieting/overexercising, self-harm, or using substances to cope with these painful thoughts. You may feel guilt and shame for thinking and feeling this way. We get lost in the shuffle of everyday life and start prioritizing others’ needs above our own, sacrificing our own self-worth. We think maybe, just maybe, if I can make others around me happy, all will be okay.

Seeking out a therapist can be a daunting task, especially if you don't have a clear understanding of what to expect, or even why you are looking. Often, we find ourselves saying out loud "I really should get a therapist" almost on impulse when things feel, well, off. Then, we get a little further along and we decide "actually, I think I'm good". Other times, someone in our life has told us we should get therapy, and we have decided to finally give it a go. Together, we will begin to identify patterns, learn to interact in new ways, and improve the quality of our lives both when we feel disrupted and when we feel in control.

Sapphire Health Psychology is for people who are experiencing chronic pain (including medically unexplained pain), serious illness, or weight management challenges and have exhausted traditional avenues for healing with little or no success. We explore these challenges from an angle that challenges the status quo, see symptoms as signals for change, recognize patterns that are hindering healing, and believe that true healing is possible. I am authorized to provide telepsychology services via the Psychology Interstate Compact (PsyPact) to the states and territories identified in this map www.psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap.

Have you found yourself thinking that you and your spouse seem more like roommates than lovers? Couples therapy can help you prioritize your relationship, learn how to talk to each other in a way that is free of criticism and defensiveness and rebuild that important bond.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
