We all encounter major stress and loss and often we recover well on our own. Sometimes life becomes overwhelming, confusing and too big to process alone. You can reach out for support, and you don’t have to do it alone. Through therapy, you have the power to focus on what helps you learn and grow. I am passionate about helping clients connect to their core values in therapy. We'll use mindfulness-based therapies to help you become aware of thoughts and behaviors that prevent you from experiencing a joyful and authentic life. I enjoy using humor, creativity and self-compassion in my practice.

You’re looking for the right therapist to help. You’re overwhelmed and exhausted. The worries, what-ifs, and wonderings are just too much to handle. You’re sick of the tears, tantrums, and terrible nights. You wish this anxiety would just leave you alone. Sometimes you think that these fears are normal, but recently school is getting harder, friendships are falling apart, and life at home is so stressful you could cry. You want to find someone who can help you, your child, or your teen to gain the confidence and flexibility to get life back on track. You might even be wondering if a diagnosis such as ADHD, ASD, or OCD fits you.

Relationships are powerful. They have the power to inspire us, help us grow, or they can smother and even damage us. We spend much of our time and energy engaged in relationships, tolerating, fixing, and avoiding relationships. I believe that relationships are powerful vehicles for change. As a psychotherapist, I offer a relationship that is warm, challenging, accepting, and personal where you can feel a full range of emotions, learn, grow, and attain your goals.

We help our clients work through anxiety, depression, and relationship stress, eating disorders, trauma, and new life changes. We want to be effective at helping those we work with so we've chosen to specialize in this stage of life.

Despite working hard and achieving goals, life is hard. When my clients first come in, they are frustrated things aren’t going the way they would like. You know life can be better but nothing seems to be improving, even with hard work. You feel like you’re failing, and your confidence is tanking. You worry that your problems aren’t important enough and have thought that people like you don’t ask for help. Or maybe you're in constant pain and no doctor has been able to provide you with any relief. You feel stuck. You may even feel like you deserve to suffer. Feeling alone and discouraged is hard.

What do I want to create most in my life? What do I need to be at peace with? How do I improve the connection in my relationships? All of these questions are an invitation to personally grow, and in this spirit, I enjoy helping individuals creatively face the hard questions life is asking of them.

When I do my work, I am always asking myself the question, "What is it that this particular person needs in order to grow?" If I can provide you with an environment that helps you experience growth you will feel better. Personal development is what makes us happy and gives us hope. Most people come to therapy because they are hurting, stuck, and don't know what to do next. I will do my very best to help you find your unique self that you have either lost or not yet found.

I view treatment as a safe space where healing can occur through the process of unpeeling multiple layers of mental and emotional patterns (conscious and unconscious), leading individuals to discover their strengths, true potential and authentic self. In this process, one can feel empowered and inspired to integrate all parts of self, even those hidden from the conscious mind. This delicate work is only possible when trust and alliance are established between therapist and client. The principles guiding this work are unconditional acceptance, compassion and non-judgment.

You've probably been considering therapy for a while, so kudos for being here! Here’s the deal: Life is hard and full of problems interfering with where you want to be. Whether you're feeling stuck, struggling through a difficult time, or just need a change, you're here because you could use extra help in finding your way. That's where I come in. My goal is to help you move toward a more fulfilling and balanced life. I believe connecting with you as a person rather than a patient will allow us to develop a genuine relationship where we can trust each other and the work we do together.

While I've worked with clients across a broad spectrum of needs and therapeutic goals I have most often found a fit with clients seeking change in their lives in the context of a collaborative relationship in therapy. I emphasize the importance of purpose in a person's life to provide motivation for practical change, leveraging both the internal resources someone already possesses and the potential to develop much more. I want to focus with a client on lifestyle and attention to the wisdom that resides in the mind, body, and spirit as a part of the immense human capacity to grow and change.

Not accepting new clients
My clients are predominantly folks who are experiencing ADHD, interpersonal relationship challenges, addiction, infertility or challenges in motherhood/parenthood. They see me as either an individual, a couple or a family. They are individuals who are overwhelmed, stressed and looking for solutions to improve their emotional wellness. My clients are looking for a therapist who will connect with them as a human being first, and provide direct and straightforward feedback to help them begin the journey of healing.

Often one is asked what is wrong with you when they should be asking what happened to you. Often, we are told to snap out of our thing...But wait! just because you cannot get with our thing doesn't mean our thing is wrong! Oh, pull ourselves up by the bootstraps…however, we may have lost our boots, the strings, or our treads are worn...So much for everyone else's perception of our stuff. You cannot change what cannot see! This is a non-judgment safe zone. Come in for an annual addiction check-up, services, or assessment. You got you and I git you! Let me support you through the change process. P.S. be ready.

I’m so glad you landed here. Welcome to the wonderful world of somatic therapy! I know it can feel intimidating to embark on a journey of self-improvement and self-acceptance. Luckily, I specialize in SE (Somatic Experiencing), a gentle approach to trauma-informed counseling that helps you ease into the process. It's great for beginners to therapy, as well as longtime therapy-goers who feel stuck in traditional talk therapy and want to access a new part of the work. I believe that therapy is at its best when it’s an open and inviting process, and one of my favorite aspects of SE is its collaborative nature.

Overall, I work to establish strong and safe connections with my clients in order to assist them in deep healing work. While my approach is eclectic, I tend to pull ideas from somatic psychology while working from a humanistic, attachment-focused perspective. I work best with clients who want to explore how their patterns began and are commited to feeling better. I have training in Somatic Experiencing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; as well as, experience working in residential and out-patient Eating Disorder Treatment.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
