I believe everyone has their own unique experience in therapy, and that one approach or theory does not fit all. Having said that, I believe the therapeutic relationship is central. We are hurt in relationships, and we are healed in relationships. A therapist's job is to provide an open space so that the client can express thoughts and feelings, and have the experience of being listened to without judgment.
Therapy is sometimes seen as intended to fix a problem, but I think of it as more about finding a strength. The world is full of messages selling us the idea that there is something wrong with us. .....
The therapeutic space is a rare environment where our innate sense of learning and our ability to grow can be encouraged and change can happen. It can be a place to sort, heal, and make new choices.
