My clients tend to have one thing in common: they want to feel better. Many of my clients are struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety, low-self worth, difficulties concentrating, chronic health concerns, and/or trouble sleeping. They often would like assistance with processing trauma/grief, and navigating difficult relationships with family members, romantic partners, or parenting strategies. They may be looking for ideas in terms of coping with difficult feelings without using substances, avoidance, or reassurance seeking because they've noticed that these strategies haven't been very helpful, but don't know where to start.

I offer supportive services for persons struggling with depression, anxiety, life changes, work pressures and interpersonal difficulties.
Many persons can benefit from supportive services, especially during particularly difficult times in their lives. The first steps in seeking out help can be difficult or feel intimidating, however. Therefore I make every effort to help an individual feel comfortable and respected in this process. My training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy leads me to take an educational approach, so that an individual can more clearly understand his or her own difficulties, and then begin to understand things in a new way, so that he or she can begin to feel less stressed and more in control.

Through our work together you will learn how to overcome limiting thoughts and beliefs that have been keeping you stuck; finding freedom from symptoms of depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties.
You deserve a place to be seen without judgment. This is where we begin! When my clients first start working with me they have often been silently carrying a heavy weight for a long time. They frequently live with constant worry and have lost their sense of self in the process of trying to keep it all together and please others. They feel scared that they’re not good enough, are falling short of expectations, or find themselves frustrated and trapped by the demands of their role as a partner, child, or parent. They are creative, motivated, and resilient but have run into barriers that keep them from stepping into their power.

Beginning therapy for the first time or beginning with a new therapist can itself be an anxiety-producing process.
**I do not currently have openings for new clients. ** Life is challenging, and at times life events and situations can feel overwhelming and confusing. In therapy I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore what is on their minds. Using a variety of approaches tailored to each individual, I strive to help clients (re)connect to their own inner resources and to develop new skills to help make challenges feel less overwhelming.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
