I have worked with clients seeking career coaching, anxiety, trauma, depression and other types of professional counseling as well as many topics in between.
Like water under pressure, emotions always find a way out. They can manifest in a variety of life challenges and symptoms. I believe that everyone has the ability and power to heal themselves and I see myself like a flashlight you may sometimes need to pick up when you become overwhelmed by the darkness of your own struggles. I have a deep appreciation for and belief in the support and growth that comes from human connection. Counseling is a way to connect with someone to take a look at your struggles, values and goals and dive into them without judgement and with support.

As a social worker with special training in the areas of mental health, domestic violence, trauma (including sexual abuse and assault), self harm, anxiety, depression and grief & loss, I will draw on these experiences to help you or your child (aged 13 or older).
Current openings are between 9 am and 2 pm. Life sure has a lot of rough patches! The feelings of overwhelming sadness, excessive worry, or the uncertainty that unforeseen situations bring can make us forget how strong we really are. I work with adults, young adults, and adolescents who are having a hard time coping with stress the way they used to. I consider it a privilege to be with people as they navigate these difficult times in their lives. Together we will find what works for you/ your teen so that life becomes manageable again and those strengths shine through.

Waitlist for new clients
*Waitlist is full at this time.* I work with people seeking a gentler & less critical way of being with themselves. Some have survived abuse, loss or trauma, while others struggle with addiction or depression. Still others search to quiet anxiety, insecurities or negative thoughts. If you have been feeling a 'dis-connect', whether from yourself or others, and are willing to explore some of the unkind inner thoughts and feelings you may be having about who you are and/or who you think you should be, then I'm confident I can be of help.

Are you feeling anxious, depressed, not as confident in yourself, the world, or in your future as you want to be? Are you tired of people telling you how you “should” feel, act, or think? Some days do you need someone to simply be there and talk to about your current experience and other days you want to learn, grow, and utilize proven and effective strategies to help you achieve your goals? Do you think you would benefit from a space where you are free to express yourself no matter how you are feeling or doing and not be judged but to be empowered? If you answered any of these questions with a YES, you are in the right place.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
