I believe in the restorative power of hope. Over the course of my career I have been able to support clients to internalize the belief that they can make change in their lives. From focusing on the elimination of inner negative chatter to processing an acute trauma, our work reveals and removes the barriers in the way of life satisfaction. Through partnership, trust and the sharing of knowledge, real movement can occur. There is hope. Licensed as both a mental health and addictions specialist counselor, I work with individuals and couples. I practice remotely in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Colorado and Florida.

Over twenty years as an ordained minister and equestrian I noticed how horses were helping me, so I developed Integrative Equine Therapy. In a non-clinical environment, a horse and IET Therapist create a safe space. We guide, encourage and support you in removing blocks, building new neural pathways from the trauma center to the conscious part of your brain, making it possible to respond rather than react to triggers. We call this "shifting perspective." With IET, you can find clarity of purpose, meaning and joy. Brown University's independent data on our therapeutic approach shows the success of IET. We work with all ages.

I am accepting new clients for Telehealth sessions. I offer a holistic, trauma informed approach to therapy that focuses on the integration of the mind-body-spirit connection. It is through increased awareness we can identify imbalances and begin the healing process. Together we will gently explore limiting patterns, subconscious beliefs, and blocked energy held in the body. I offer a nonjudgmental, safe space for clients to work through the issues that are most heavily impacting their lives. I weave in principles from Energy Psychology, Neuroscience, Spirituality, EMDR, Emotion Code, Somatic Experiencing, and Positive Psychology

We have all been tested by a global pandemic. You may have found yourself using unhealthy ways to cope to manage increased stress and anxiety (overeating, having an extra glass of wine, arguing with family members, throwing yourself into work, worrying, isolating yourself). When things go wrong (divorce, job stress/loss, medical challenges, financial pressures, death of loved ones) many people become self-critical, negative, and avoidant. The way we navigate these challenging times can determine whether we build inner strength and gain wisdom or bear the consequences of unrelenting standards, self-criticism and disconnection.

Our work together will be suited to your needs. That is, one client may choose talk therapy, whereas another prefers the hands-on approach of energy field healing, and a third opts to combine both of these approaches. Regardless of the mode of treatment, we are always aware that the whole person includes body, mind and spirit and so will involve and integrate them as much as possible. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including cognitive, skill building, Gestalt, client-centered, guided imagery, inner child work, or energy healing depending on the needs and style of growth of the client.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
