My ideal client is one who is motivated to change. I deal with school related issues, family issues, individual issues and marital issues. My goal is to get clients to understand the consequences of their behavior and to learn how to communicate their thoughts and feelings appropriately. I try to get them to develop insight into their behaviors along with being able to develop skills to work on stressors when they are not in the therapy sessions. I deal with mood disorders including depression, anxiety disorders and anger management issues.
I had worked at Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center for over 30 years as a Psychologist/Administrator. I have dealt with extreme situations concerning youngsters and their families. I use cognitive behavioral therapy with children and adolescents and psychodynamic techniques/cognitive skills with adults and couples.
I have a post-doctorate degree in psychopharmacology (medications used to treat psychiatric disorders) Although I cannot prescribe I am aware of the positive effects and side effects of these medications. I also use humor as a technique to help clients develop insight into their issues or problems.
