I believe each individual is the expert in their own life and once we can grasp this concept, real change and growth can occur. It is my belief that as a therapist, I have the opportunity to empower individuals to realize their own strengths and abilities to accomplish their goals and find well-being. I feel the therapeutic relationship, and the trust and empathy in that relationship, is one of the most important factors when it comes to working with clients on their self-understanding and change.
I think it is often necessary to implement multiple techniques of treatment to provide integrative care to clients. When working with clients I utilize techniques from a variety of widely accepted theories of counseling, but specifically enjoy implementing techniques from Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Existential Therapy.
It is my personal belief, that at the core of our being, we crave meaningful relationships and a purpose in life. In therapy, it is my goal to guide the client toward an increase of self-understanding, self-awareness, and overall self-acceptance while empowering the client to take charge of their own life circumstances.
