With twenty years of experience in therapy, psychological assessment, and neuropsychological assessment, I provide clarity that has real-life value. I focus on research-backed therapies. I explain the process when I suggest a specific therapy for you (in non-therapist language). Expert diagnostic and therapy skills can also involve a genuine, warm, and honest relationship. I fight for what my clients need outside of therapy if they need it. I have wanted to be a Clinical Psychologist since I was a teenager. My training was a full-time, eleven-year commitment to that goal. I love what I do and feel fortunate to do it.

Are you looking for a therapy experience that feels...different? You may be noticing patterns in your life—things in your relationships, from your past, or in the way you think or feel that have you feeling stuck. You want to start feeling better day-to-day but you’d also like to get to the deeper roots behind this. You need somewhere that doesn’t feel stuffy, intimidating or overly clinical—a place where you can feel comfortable being honest with someone else and (more importantly) with yourself. Because you know there’s more to life than this cycle you feel caught in and you are ready to discover what that looks like for you.

Feeling emotionally overwhelmed at some point is something to which most people can relate. I understand that sometimes life circumstances can leave one feeling conflicted, stressed and even hopeless and helpless. However, there is hope and there is help. As a professional, I have witnessed time and again the power of accurate information, solid resources, and compassionate support to transform even the most dismal circumstances. It is my strong desire to bring this powerful combination to all those with whom I work, as they discover more deeply their own inner resources and strengths.

For some of us, our ability to maintain a loving, empowered relationship with ourselves can be more challenging due to circumstance, our mental health (or lack thereof), and events that may have happened to us. Perhaps this shows up as struggling to show up for ourselves in ways we do for others. For many, when we feel like our potential is different than our reality, we may turn against ourselves.

I believe that every human being has the ability to be the best person they can be. Everyone struggles at different times in life, some unfortunately, more than others complicated by circumstances, situations and relationships. I work with the understanding that we get stuck around negative emotions that we tend to avoid, as they are uncomfortable, unwanted and painful. I help people explore what their underlying core emotional issues are and help them clarify how they are avoiding them, inviting them to face these uncomfortable emotional experiences and move toward them, stretching their comfort zone.

As a psychologist practicing over the past 20 years, I have helped adults manage difficult life events, transitional stress, loss, emotional trauma and a variety of symptoms related to depression, anxiety and other emotional concerns. My integrative approach to therapy is informed by humanistic, existential, relational, cognitive and behavioral theories. I work with each individual to guide them through a process of developing greater self-awareness, self-understanding, and, ultimately, self-efficacy.

I use a psychodynamic approach combined with energy work, CBT, Neural Linking and drama therapy.
My specialty is helping people move to the core of their issues to see and feel the underlying root cause of the pain you are experiencing. I combine talk therapy with visualization, meditation and energy work to help each client open to the deeper beliefs and patterns that inform your present situation. I believe that as we face and resolve our inner pain, our outer world begins to shift and transform. We have the ability to change our current circumstances, communicate better and love ourselves and each other in healthier ways. By facing the inner pain we begin to heal ourselves from the inside out.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
