I work with individuals, utilizing techniques from psychodynamic therapies.
Every person is unique and capable of realizing their potential in an optimal environment. However, life is filled with so many challenges and it is not unusual to feel discouraged or unable to meet those challenges. Building a relationship based on acceptance and trust with my clients is my priority. I listen carefully and help them develop an understanding of what has led them to unsatisfying thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We explore and identify how significant past experiences have shaped their present life. When working with teens, parents are essential part of the therapy and always welcome to collaborate.

Through insightful psychodynamic approaches, I engage what lies beneath and the potential that lives within the unthought known.
I have a full and deep life of experience to draw from in meeting my clients in sacred space. The loss of a son, a marriage, a career, accumulated material rewards, and most importantly, the potential of life unlived; dreams unfulfilled. This is soul work. Prepared by the vulnerability of my story, I hold insight and compassion for those whose burdens must be eased into, passed through, and reborn into new purpose, for the quality of our life is in our overcoming. Navigating the troubled waters of depression, anxiety, relational fissures, and archetypal energies is the first threshold of a healing journey.

My aim is to follow you into whatever calls for your attention, develop a trusting and authentic relationship with you in order to explore it, as well as use and provide tools as necessary to help you overcome whatever it is that you face. My work is informed by relational psychodynamic theory, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), somatic therapy, parts work, and Buddhist psychology. I work with individuals, couples, and groups ages 12 and older, whether it be short-term and solution-oriented or long-term and exploratory.

I use a variety of therapy models with my clients: including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and strengths-based.
Every human being experiences difficult moments in life. Those who choose therapy are better able to navigate these times and see change they desire. I enjoy helping individuals achieve their goals. These goals include overcoming depression, anxiety, or anger; acheiving stabilizing peace to ongoing family conflict; or successfully navigating a major life transition. I've spent more than a decade helping adults, parents, teenagers, children, and families with their unique situations.

I work with individuals using a psychodynamic, trauma focused approach.
I am glad you are here, taking steps toward putting yourself first. As a clinical therapist, I provide a person-centered approach to therapy, by creating a supportive and encouraging environment to help you move towards your optimal health. It is my belief that we need to develop protective parts to help us navigate through traumatic and stressful times. Our past can keep us stuck in old patterns. My goal is that together we reprocess past experiences to recreate new, healthier patterns for relationships, or other vulnerable areas in your life.

Most of my early training was alongside psychodynamic-oriented clinicians and those theories continue to inform my work today.
I appreciate the courage it takes to seek therapy. If you are struggling with loss or life transitions, stuck in various forms of addiction or simply desire objectivity then I would love to meet you. I enjoy helping people discover their truest potential, parts of self previously unseen. In the process my approach will be direct yet compassionate, I will speak in a language that's easy to understand and relatable.

I focus my practice on Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic, and Person-Centered theories, which I believe are important to identify my clients’ needs and to develop goals together.
I am skilled at helping through the day to day struggles of anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, although my door is always open. Therapy should feel like a safe space to begin working through the tough stuff that has come up in life, and my goal is to help you discover the tools and skills to press on in this journey no matter what the circumstances. My job is not to tell you what to do, but rather to support you as you journey unfolds.

The approaches I use most often include narrative therapy, psychodynamic therapy, harm-reduction, brainspotting, and relational therapy.
I believe each person is the expert in their own experience and view my role as a co-pilot on the path to healing and self-exploration. I work with adolescents and adults with varying experiences such as substance use, trauma, anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, identity exploration, and burnout. I believe co-creation of therapy goals is vital to forging a path uniquely tailored to meet the needs of each person with whom I work.

Beginning therapy and finding a new therapist can feel challenging yet hopeful. It is important to find a therapist with whom you can form a close bond and who begins to understand you. This bond can give way to more deep and meaningful therapeutic work. As an Object Relations psychoanalytical psychotherapist I will use our therapeutic relationship as the primary vehicle for change. Psychoanalytic work helps provide relief from debilitating symptoms as well as addresses the deeper underlying causes of your symptoms. Our work also allows for exploration in understanding unconscious drives that shape your daily life and relationships.

You might be experiencing one of these: gnawing anxiety in your chest that just won’t leave you, dominates your thoughts, is changing how you live. Or the circling, dark thoughts of depression, where there is no pleasure in anything and everything is hopeless. Or maybe the effects of past, buried trauma have become unmanageable, and how you used to cope is not working. Or, you have lost someone you love, and life now feels unwanted and impossible. Or despite others’ complaints, you can’t conceive of going without either alcohol, drugs, porn, food, or relationships to feel normal or valuable, to get through the day with less pain

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
