I do this by utilizing modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and others culminating in an integrative approach to fit your needs.
We are all trying to do our best, but sometimes we need a little help in order to achieve our goals. Therapy provides a supportive and nonjudgmental environment in order to help you grow, change, and become the person you want to be.

My approach is psychodynamic; however, I understand each person is unique & may benefit from a different approach.
Starting therapy can be challenging and finding a therapist who is the right fit can be even more a struggle. I believe that we all need someone to talk to and I would love to be that somebody for you! Going through life can have its ups and downs, it may even feel as if you are struggling to hang in there. As your therapist, I will meet you where you are & walk alongside of you on your journey. My goal is to provide support & tools that empower you in whichever phase of life you might be in.

I utilize cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, client-centered, and psychodynamic treatment modalities, as well as others.
My journey began in the rugged beauty of the Kentucky mountains, where I learned the value of strength and perseverance as the youngest of ten children in a family touched by hardship. As a child of divorce, I experienced adversity loss, and uncertainty. I always wanted a college degree but, it would not become a reality until my forties, when I finally pursued and attained my Master’s Degree in Social Work. My lifelong passion for the underdog, hurting or distressed people, led me to pursue a career as a therapist.

I have over 20 years of experience working with adults to address feelings of low self-esteem, shame, depression, anxiety, and relationship concerns.

This is standard practice in psychodynamic therapy.
If you're seeking a therapist, perhaps you’re already asking questions like, "why am I feeling the way I am, how did it come to this, and how would I like my life to be different?" In the course of our work together, I'll help you to hold on to the curiosity and courage it takes to pursue these questions. Together, we'll come to understand your troubling thoughts and feelings as bearing messages, that, when they can be heard as such, will allow you to speak the truth about your life. I firmly believe that, no matter how difficult your struggle, it is only in the speaking of this truth that solutions can be found.

In my practice, I draw upon a unique blend of psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and multicultural psychotherapy all guided by a trauma-informed lens.
You wake up in the middle of the night, your mind swirling with thoughts of whether you'll ever be able to trust someone again – to let down those walls that have become your armor. The old ways of coping that once served you now seem to be crumbling, leaving you feeling even more adrift. Each time you tidy up a space, the weight of responsibilities feels unbearable, and you can't help but yearn for someone to care for you, to give you the break you so desperately need and deserve. If your day-to-day seems like a maze of responsibilities and obligations that leave little room for your own well-being, I understand and I can help.

While I specialize in parenting techniques for young children, I also enjoy working with children, teens, and adults who feel "stuck," or are having difficulty managing family and social conflicts. I believe the therapeutic relationship is a powerful agent of change, and aim to provide a warm, safe, and casual space for clients to express themselves. I work particularly well with teenage and young adult females. I also encourage creative outlets for processing emotional issues, which might include drawing, painting or any other evidenced-based expressive techniques that relieve distress.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
