Are you tired of trying to hold it all together? Have you turned to alcohol, drugs, porn, or unhealthy sexual behaviors to cope? Are friends and family increasingly concerned? Are you fighting more with your partner or loved ones, blowing up in anger or simply avoiding conflict? Are consequences piling up in relationships, at home, work, or school? Or are you watching as this becomes the reality for a loved one? I am profoundly aware of the toll substances and addictive behaviors can take on individuals and families from my 7 yrs experience in addiction treatment. Therapy is a great place to start if you are looking for a change.

Not accepting new clients
We all want to be happy and feel hopeful about the future, but sometimes life's stressors can make it quite challenging. Therapy can help. I work with clients to teach them healthy coping and how to change their perspective. A new way of thinking can truly make a significant impact on how a person feels. I am trained in EMDR therapy, a powerful treatment for trauma and PTSD. I graduated from Bradley University with a masters degree in Human Development Counseling and have over 10 years experience providing therapy.

I hold a Master of Arts in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary with training in Psychodynamic Theory from the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago.
As a therapist, I work from a relational model that considers both individual and systematic aspects of life to create a better understanding of what is brought into session. In collaboration, I'm a firm believer in showing up authentically as a queer/neurodiverse therapist and welcome clients to do the same as we work together. Therapy is work, but it's not something you have to do alone.

Each person is impacted by unique challenges and empowered by individual strengths. I find it a privilege to support clients as they discover the best version of themselves and unlock their potential. In a collaborative environment, I use an eclectic, psychodynamic- based approach to explore what strengths, weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and challenges contribute to living a fulfilling life. Through a strong therapeutic relationship, I hope to engage clients in a journey toward healing and thriving.

The theories and therapeutic approaches I utilize the most are Psychodynamic psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy.
You want a therapist that is different. You've tried therapy before and it felt like a waste of time. You know you need help but taking the first step is terrifying and hard. You’re scared of opening up and talking about things that most people don't understand. You don't want to waste your time with the same old therapy talk. You need someone who can provide some immediate relief, is safe to talk to, and will work at your pace. You are an expert on your own experiences, I am a professional who understands diverse ways of life. Tell me what you can, when you can, and I will be right here for you.

My specialties included psychodynamic therapy with individuals (adolescents and adults), couples, and groups often dealing with depression and/or anxiety.
Often people enter therapy because they feel stuck. They know what to do but it's just the 'doing it' that's hard. I have been working successfully with clients for 20 years and I love it. I focus on the importance of relationships as well as the achievement of individual desires. I offer in-person and teletherapy services.

I believe that everyone has inherent strength. While I can be direct and to the point, I understand that this conversation is about your life, not mine. I come from an inclusive feminist background and am comfortable working with all genders. I also believe in the power of laughter and that everyone is capable of living their best life. We are not broken and do not need fixing. However, there are times in life when we need a safe space to focus on where to go next. Addressing trauma, depression, PTSD, and CPTSD doesn’t always mean reliving past experiences or sharing every detail. My goal is to support you in moving beyond.

Everyone experiences pain in life and my goal is to keep the pain from becoming a person's identity. Our daily experiences are both joyful and painful. How we cope with these experience, either through healthy or unhealthy coping skills, will determine our new thought processes. These thought processes lead to self beliefs. I enjoy joining people in this moment of their lives and helping them redefine coping skills to rid themselves of related negative self beliefs.

I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy at some point and we can always use support and encouragement to help us grow as human beings. Sometimes we need clarity in a situation and need a different perspective. Maybe we need someone to gently push us and hold us accountable. Maybe we just need someone to listen because we're not feeling heard by those around us. I truly believe in meeting my clients where they are and will help them determine what their goals are and how to get there.

I believe that we are all placed in a specific place and time for a greater purpose. Life is hard and many of us lose our way and this leads to confusion, lonliness and often we develop addictive and maladaptive behaviors to deal with our issues. Our issues are real but we go about solving them in a nonproductive way. I help a client look at alternative ways of living often pulling from his strengths and encouraging him to incorporate spirituality as a guide. I am a Christ follower and incorporate His teaching into my own life and therapy.

I support adult individuals and couples through challenges associated with anxiety, depression, masculinity, mixed-race identity, communication, and relationship functioning. Though I see myself as an active participant in your therapeutic journey, I aim to provide you with the space to take ownership of your healing. In other words, we will work at your pace to better understand how your important life experiences and relationships might inform how you navigate life and its challenges. Hopefully, with greater awareness for who you are within the context of your past and present, you can live a freer and more fulfilling future.

Life can feel out of control at times, and it can be difficult to slow down and pay attention to ourselves or make desired changes. We might feel like we are trying to survive what life throws at us, rather than living to the fullest. Maybe we find that certain patterns in our lives are creating problems or old coping strategies aren't working anymore. Perhaps after years of avoiding our emotions, they have become too painful and overwhelm us. I strive to create a collaborative, safe, and non-judgmental space to explore what you are going through with compassion and curiosity.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
