My approach is holistic, nurturing, and interactive, using various techniques like breath-work, guided imagery, inner child work, and other psychodynamic and attachment-focused processes.
Many of us have heard or believe that we're "too much" throughout our lives—too emotional, too challenging, too overwhelming, or too far gone to deserve the things, relationships, and lives we long for. This messaging can lead to difficulties setting boundaries, fear of independence, or isolation to avoid feelings of shame and disappointment when our needs go unmet. I believe that big emotions are not a sign that something is “wrong” with you, but rather are healthy signals seeking respect and attention to guide you toward your true self.

My approach is a mixture of many different types of therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mentalization Based Treatment, Centered Therapy, and Sex Therapy.
I work mainly with adults and late adolescents, individually, in couples and in groups. The areas I specialize in are sexual issues (individuals or couples), adults molested as children, emotional intimacy, communication, anxiety, depression, self-awareness, and deep and lasting character change. In my 45 years of practicing counseling and psychotherapy I've worked with a wide variety of people of different ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religions, and those with physical challenges. I find it immensely rewarding to work with people who are actively seeking to resolve problems through increased self-awareness.

My background of attachment theory, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed therapies means I believe that our lived experiences influence how we think, feel, and behave.
You're probably here because you feel stuck, you know you want to make some changes, but don't know where to start. Maybe you struggle with anxious thinking spirals or find it's hard to draw boundaries with people. Lately you feel more easily triggered and just overwhelmed by life. Maybe small tiffs feel like big conflicts with your partner, friends, or family, or perhaps you feel disconnected in your relationship. We get stuck in these patterns for very specific reasons, and we repeat what we don't repair. I can help you break these cycles and get back on track to thinking, feeling, and being the optimized version of YOU.

I work from an integrative narrative conversation that feeds from the wisdom of psychodynamic therapeutic work.
Relationships surround us - we are all in relationship with others and with ourselves. At times these relationships can be overwhelming; impacted by the tangible and intangible parts of living. Contact me, it's my honor to enter the sacred space that feels tender, unknown, disorganized, overwhelmed, and at times, even hopeless. My hope is to host a space where clients are freely able to share and explore their complexities in their unique experiences, values, and hopes.

I draw from a variety of therapeutic techniques such as family systems, solution focused, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral.
Everyone struggles with the challenges of life and everyone can use some help once in awhile to get through a difficult period. Challenging times can be scary and overwhelming, but they can also present an opportunity for growth and positive change if managed appropriately. In my practice, I work collaboratively and interactively with teens and adults to help identify and solve problems that get in the way of achieving life aspirations. The goal of therapy is to empower people to live richer and more satisfying lives. I use a compassionate approach when helping people make changes in their lives.

Finding a therapist can be challenging and scary so I applaud you for taking the first step. I believe it is an honor and privilege to be a part of someone's journey and healing and want you to feel safe and comfortable so you can be yourself and explore your past, present and future self. I work from a mixture of therapeutic modalities including Gestalt and psychodynamic. However, everyone is very unique and I always meet clients where they are.

I find it a privilege to work with individuals during periods of growth, transition, or challenge in their lives, and have been in private practice for 20 years. I work primarily with the diagnoses of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating issues, adjustment disorders, and relationship difficulties. My approach to psychotherapy is primarily psychodynamic and depth-oriented. I also have a strong interest in contemporary and relational psychoanalysis. I believe in the therapeutic process for symptom relief, for personal insight, for experiencing new ways of being, and for the deepening of human relationships.

I practice a trauma-informed, integrative/psychodynamic approach.
Have you experienced something traumatic that is affecting you today? Are you feeling stuck in your healing? Maybe you're waking up in the morning feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the day ahead? Maybe you are feeling sad, depressed, hopeless about the future, and lacking the motivation to even get out of bed? Our experiences have a profound impact on the way we view the world and the way we experience our own emotions. Trauma wounds might be making it difficult for you to be present in your life, preventing you from connecting with loved ones or making it difficult to trust anyone, including yourself. Therapy is here to help.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
