Sherpa is the name for the person in Nepal who carries your baggage when you are climbing up a high mountain. That image fits with my vision of therapy or counseling. I see myself as your servant. I enjoy helping people carry the baggage you bring on the trip. The usefulness of what we do together is dependent on the quality of the relationship we can develop. Do you think that I can help you carry your baggage until you get back on the trail or are high enough on the mountain to see where you want to go?
My most important client is the one in my office. Working with people is not a job; it is a sacred calling. Doing my best to know who you are seems to be more helpful than specific techniques; with the exception of couple's therapy and grief counseling where specific techniques may be more effective.
People that I am currently working with suffer from anxiety, depression, marital distress, and chemical dependency - both drugs and alcohol. In the past year I have not worked with pre-adolescent children, people with eating disorders, nor people of any age with cognitive or physical impairments.
