What I love about therapy is when I see that light bulb go on over someone's head. Discovering something from a new point of view, healing an old wound. Like a midwife, I work with the client to create the conditions for them to heal themselves. Some of my clients come for treatment of trauma, or for other causes of distress. First we have to develop safety. Client's learn to have a relationship with their feelings. Rather than reacting, they learn to cope with their distress. Ineffective beliefs about self, born out of past pain, dissolve in the light of the client's new awareness. For some, this is done with EMDR therapy.
The basis of my work is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for survivors of trauma. I use other methods to treat other causes of distress. We look at how your story shapes how you live. I also teach some coping skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I enjoy getting to know people, with their unique strengths and challenges. Good therapy is a team effort. If you show up, good things can happen.
