My approach to psychotherapy is based on both my education and more than 30 years of experience as a clinical psychologist, including research, teaching, writing, and supervision. Psychotherapy is a path defined by both therapist and client. Each individual client brings unique resources, strengths, weaknesses, problems, hopes, and expectations to therapy as well as their own idiom, their way of expressing themselves. Together, we will search for what gives meaning to your life and what may be interfering in its realization. Successful psychotherapy depends on the quality of the relationship between client and therapist.
Self-examination, the willingness to face emotional difficulties, is fundamental to effective coping and living a full, meaningful, and gratifying life. My goal is to create a setting so you can do this challenging work. I am committed to working with you in this effort, which means that I will be flexible, interactive, and attentive to your specific needs.
During our first two sessions, I will develop an initial understanding of your concerns and how I can best help you. In turn, you will be able to assess whether I am the person with whom you would like to work. After these initial sessions, I will provide you with feedback and together we will develop a therapeutic focus.
