Something isn’t working. Sometimes nothing is working. Do you ever ask: “Is this what life comes down to?” Do you worry it’s too late to change, that mistakes, hurts, and injustices cannot be undone? Maybe worst are the times you feel the best option is to settle for the fleeting comfort of familiar ways because cold comfort is better than no comfort. I treat many people who have worked very hard in life but struggle privately with relationship issues, trauma, self-esteem, and the effects of complicated family histories. Some have tried therapy or self-help, but it wasn’t personalized enough, the right time, or the right approach.
My approach is to adjust the therapy to fit the person rather than make the person fit the therapy. I will listen to you, make observations, and make space for you to do the work. I know it may take time for you to feel I am someone familiar to you who you can be messy around. By now I have heard and seen it all. If you want, I will go the distance with you.
In addition to practicing psychotherapy, I am a past professor of psychology, public speaker, and author of a forthcoming book. I offer in-person meetings and Zoom when appropriate.
