My ideal client would be a teen or young adult trying to navigate life. They may bring to our sessions their need for acceptance and belonging, needing positive peer interactions, anxieties, and career exploration. We would develop goals together and establish what they want to get out of their therapy sessions. They come with a "want to change" attitude and are willing to put in the work. The goal is for my client to get a better understand of themselves and what is in their control and work on a better them.
I can help my client by understanding their "why". Why do they want to change, why do they want or need acceptance and belonging? My experience and specialty areas include family, career, and educational counseling. I can offer guidance and explore their feelings on acceptance and belonging and dig deeper in their need for change.
To build empathy is to recognize and validate client's feelings and emotions. I allow clients the space to take the session where they want it to go and at the pace where they feel comfortable. This space will establish communication and alliance.
