Also, as a parent of a child with T1 diabetes, I have a special understanding of the daily challenges brought on by a chronic medical condition.
We all wish life’s journey could be an easy one, but the reality is the path is not always smooth. Life can be filled with uncertainty, conflict, and hard choices. No matter what your age, there are times when life can leave you feeling lost. The good news is that this journey does not have to be faced alone. With a focus on compassion, connection, and what is developmentally appropriate, I can provide support and guidance through these challenges. Whether you are an adult, child, teen, parent, or whole family, I am able to help. I consider it a great privilege to be allowed to walk with people on their life's journey.

Working to strengthen and promote the parent-child relationship is something that I focus on.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I have worked with children and families for over 20 years. My passion is to help children express themselves through play, a child's natural way of communicating. To give children the tools to process and understand their world and what they have experienced in a way that cognitively and verbally they may not have the ability to do just yet.

I see children and adolescents, neurodivergence, divorce/separation, parenting, and maternal mental health.
I work with a broad range of clients, which may not seem connected, but inevitably it is. I enjoy working with kids, teens, young adults, moms, and couples. What I incorporate into my sessions is authenticity, humor, and a pragmatic approach. I often say "let's throw spaghetti at the wall and see what works". I love working with those are actively involved in the therapy process. It's a collaboration between myself and the client. I draw from several modalities, so the approach is tailored to each client. I enjoy couples, divorce/separation, neurodivergent people, PDA (in children) and failure to launch.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
