Parenting Therapists in Oregon
When working with an individual or couple, I utilize my years of experience as a therapist, evaluator, and parent to help people make important changes.
I specialize in working with individuals that are involved in a high conflict divorce or an individual or couple that are involved in a DHS child welfare case. People going through these highly stressful experiences can benefit from support, direction, and at times direct assistance in order to successfully get through the legal process. The goal of the work is to facilitate the legal aspect of the case, decrease stress, save the client money, and minimize the impact of the pain or damage to children.

I support individuals who are feeling stuck in life. This can look like inner critics, relationship issues, childhood wounds, having a creative block, addictions, perfectionism, depression, anxiety, anger, loneliness, or grief. I offer relational counseling as well, to romantic couples, friends, colleagues, any two people experiencing conflict in their relationship. I also support families who are navigating challenging issues from conflicting parenting styles, difficulty with a child's behavior or emotional expression, how to have a healthy relationship with screen time and technology, relational conflict between parents, and more.

Imagine feeling in control and on top of work, school, relationships, parenting, and life in general.
Did you wake up this morning with a pit in your stomach? Are you feeling a sense of dread as you start your day? Are you feeling like you are never on top of work, school, relationships, parenting, or life in general? When was the last time you felt like you actually got anything on your mile long to-do list done? Are these “unprecedented times” wearing you down? Are you still thinking about that thing you said when you were hanging out with your friend? Are you feeling anxious about social commitments? Do you lay awake at night thinking about every little thing until you are spiraling out of control?

I work non judgmentally with clients to examine/strengthen relationships.I work with individuals, couples and families to repair and rebuild relationships that are not functioning at their best. With the client, the current concern is examined then goals and steps toward change are developed.I feel a persons self esteem is often a key component to current concerns and difficulties being experienced, as such this is examined.I believe the child parent relationship is key to a child's development and self esteem. I work with the parent to create the strongest connection possible with their child.

Our lives are filled with relationships: friendship, significant other, parent, child, intimate partner, etc. When our relationships are struggle, so do other areas of life. Frequently, feelings of depression, anger, or stress coincide with disconnection of a significant, meaningful relationship. This feeling of disconnection is threatening and scary; allowing for thoughts of abandonment, and feeling alone. Unfortunately, this results in an increased feeling of disconnection in our most important relationships.

I've been working with children, adolescents, and families for 25 years. As a parent myself, I'm familiar with the growing pains of raising a family. Each new day can be an adventure, whether we want it to be or not. I can assist you as you navigate the ups and downs of family life and parenting. I believe it's 'easier to build a child than to repair an adult.' Building a resilient, happy child begins at birth. Fostering resilience in your children through effective parenting and a supportive "village" is a gift they will have the rest of their lives.

I know how tough it can be to manage the daily challenges of parenting, especially when you're facing unique developmental or emotional hurdles.
Parenting is hard, parenting a child with a trauma background or neurodivergence can feel especially isolating and overwhelming. If you have gone through many professionals who have thrown their hands up already or maybe the people you share your concerns with keep telling you that your kid will “grow out of it,” I’m glad you’re still searching for answers. You know your kid and you’re doing the right thing by finding ways to support their needs. I work with families who could describe their children as: challenging, explosive, difficult, neurodiverse, gifted, different, struggling in school, or having experienced trauma.

The parents I work with never imagined parenting a child with such extreme behaviors.
Parenting a child with challenging behaviors can feel like navigating New York City with a map of Chicago. It's confusing, stressful and incredibly lonely. The “tried and true” parenting approaches do not seem to help your child be “less challenging” (and in fact, often make things worse), and the traditional parenting advice from mainstream “experts” feels tone-deaf when it comes to to your experience. You've researched on-line, and you still find yourself wishing there was someone who could understand your unique experience and offer expert guidance that puts you and your child, and your family on a path to healing.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
