By providing perinatal and parenting-specific techniques and research-based support for symptom relief, I help to normalize these common experiences and improve the family's sense of wellness.
At Santa Cruz Therapy Collective, I enjoy supporting young adults who are exploring their identities and independence. With a relational approach that includes CBT and trauma deactivation, I invite clients to explore past relationships and how they influence current patterns. Our work together supports them to lean into the challenges of life and craft an intentional path forward. I also often work with parents who are struggling with anxiety, isolation, conflict, and loss of self. The parenting experience is not always what people anticipate - instead of joy there is worry, insecurity, and overwhelm.

Years of study of a variety of therapeutic methods form my background and my thinking. In addition to my training, I bring creativity, honesty and humor to this hard and rewarding work.

I work with individual adult and adolescent clients to heal symptoms such as depression, anxiety, addictions, body image issues, somatic pain or illness, suicidal ideation, parent- child related difficulties, and attachment-based wounding. Through the lens of Internal Family Systems, a non-pathologizing approach to healing trauma, I help clients to align with their internal resource for healing, get to know the true meaning of their symptoms, and unburden the pain they carry. Clients report feeling greater connectedness, expanded perspective on their lives and compassion for themselves and others around them following treatment.

Being a parent is so hard. There are moments of joy, there is so much exhaustion, and there are times that honestly feel soul draining. In these times you can feel like a hollow, empty shell going through the motions of life and parenthood. It can feel like there is a fog of stress and anxiety hanging over even the sunniest of days. It can feel so far away from what you imagined. This soul draining feeling has a powerful message for you. Somewhere along the way you lost your connection to yourself.

I offer a nurturing environment for clients to explore what is preventing them from being happy with how they handle life, parenting, work and relationships.
Are you yearning for a more joyful life and more connected relationships? Perhaps you have patterns that are getting in the way of connection and joy bc of difficult past experiences. I provide a warm, accepting environment to allow for clients to clear negative experience, regulate their nervous system and start living in the present. I have a certification in brainspotting, a neuroexperiential model which has been shown to reduce and even eliminate symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and depression. I also have a bachelors degree in music therapy so using music and other expressive arts are available to clients. Expressive arts retreats

I am also experienced working with anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, aging, maintaining recovery, parenting, LGBTQ+ concerns, attachment, and relationships, among other issues and concerns.
I believe the brain constantly seeks healing and balance. In my experience, no matter what happens to a person, the deepest parts of oneself hold wisdom and strengths. Once we accept, appreciate, and access more of what’s inside of us, we can grow into the life we want and into our unique selves. I work from a client-centered, culturally competent, and strengths-based perspective. I meet you where you are; we identify your needs, perspectives, wisdom, and strengths, and collaborate on the goals you set for therapy. I provide a non-judgmental therapeutic space

I work with clients on anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, grief, parenting, self-care, compulsion/addiction issues, identity/sexuality, PTSD, eating disorders, body image issues, self esteem and many other life challenges.
As I see it, the primary role of a counselor is to serve as a mirror to help reveal what the client hasn't yet been able to see-especially those patterns of relating to self, others, and the environment that might be causing suffering. At the same time, the counselor is there to reflect, affirm, and strengthen the client's unique gifts and talents. One of the biggest impediments to healing, growth, and creativity is shame. To help clients move through this debilitating emotion, I use a combination of mindfulness, body awareness, and other healing modalities.

Sometimes life throws us situations we never imagined for ourselves. The death of a parent, spouse, or best friend. Frequent calls from your child’s teacher about their “bad behavior." A surprise announcement from your teen that they’re not comfortable in the gender you always thought they were. You’re not alone, and you or your child don’t have to go through these experiences alone, either. Together, we’ll find ways to cope with the days where it feels too hard to get out of bed, to explore what feelings are coming up when you’re crying alone in the shower, or to come up with strategies to see the “good” in your child.

I have had extensive education, training and experience in providing divorce-related counseling including; child custody mediation, pre and post divorce counseling, blended family counseling and co-parent counseling.
I believe that being raised in the mid-west gives my work certain down-to-earth, practical qualities that most of my clients tell me they very much appreciate. I often hear clients say "you seem to get me." Some clients need to hear themselves speak out loud in order to help resolve their issues while others need some objective, impartial reflective insight. Still others benefit from my years of counseling experience and information targeted to help with their particular problems. I offer all of these to my clients and tailor my therapeutic approach to each person's specific needs.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
