As a parent I know there is no worse feeling than watching your child struggle and being helpless to stop it. Trying desperately to help and connect with them only to feel like they are moving farther away from you despite how much you love them. Ultimately, nothing is more painful than feeling like you have failed your child. In the end all parents want is for their children to be happy and healthy but often to a child or teenager, going to therapy can make them feel like they are a problem that needs to be fixed.

I work closely with parents, and practice non-directive play therapy as an adjunct to parent education.
There will be instances when you feel "stuck" or experience suffering. The time is now to invest in yourself. Guidance from a professional outside of the current situation may provide necessary support to alleviate distress and find your path with a more informed perspective. I offer a warm and safe environment in which to explore areas of concern and strength. With over two decades of experience, I have treated issues not limited to: anxiety, co-dependency, recovery, life transitions, chronic illness, abuse, childhood disorders, divorce, co- parenting, and depression.

I specialize in helping heal attachment wounds of childhood, attachment parenting, and helping people process and integrate trauma.
Looking at the world through the eyes of a child, it is easy to see how we are born with goodness and light. Our life experiences can make that light hard to see at times, but looking within can help us get back to who we were truly meant to be. I can help guide you to release some of the burdens holding you back. I do therapy through an attachment lens, focusing on the link between early attachment figures and struggles in the present such as depression, anxiety, and interpersonal relationships. I am trauma informed and certified in EMDR. I am Level 1 Internal Family Systems (IFS) Trained. I also do Play Therapy, and Sandtray.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
