I specialize in the treatment of OCD using exposure and response prevention, anxiety disorders using cognitive behavioral therapy, and the treatment of disruptive behaviors in children ages 3-7 using parent child interaction therapy and older children using parent management training.
My goal as a psychologist is to help individuals (children, adolescents, and adults) reach their full potential and live the life they want to live. By the end of our time together my hope is that you will have the tools and skills to no longer need therapy. I assist individuals in reaching that benchmark through the use of evidence-based approaches. I have expertise in the treatment of depression, ADHD, and trauma.

Wanting something different, but struggling, is part of being human. We all find ourselves repeating patterns that are unhealthy or unhelpful. I will work with you to understand how these patterns came to be and how you can create new ways of being in the world. Together, we will work to minimize stress and anxiety, find more effective ways of coping and affect the genuine change you desire.

Is something out of balance in your life? With yourself? Your child? Your effectiveness as a parent? Your relationships? Life circumstances/transitions? If it is, please know that my way of practicing is to non-judgmentally understand what is going on--what area of your life is being negatively impacted. Then we can collaboratively work on establishing goals and a treatment plan. Whether it is Anxiety, OCD, Autism (including very young kids with autism), Depression/Bipolar, Behavior Problems, ADHD, Trauma or Insomnia, there is a way for you or your child to feel more in control, grounded and balanced.

I've been in practice for over 10 years and have seen patients from three-ninety years old. Many transitions occur throughout the lifespan and during these transitions; some can be more difficult than expected and need examining for better understanding and practices. To do this I facilitate an environment free of judgement and help my patients understand their feelings and thoughts, as well as how to improve their behaviors to better their lives and futures. I enjoy my work and very much and strive to help people find their own voice, achieve their greatest accomplishments and successes in life, love, and work.

In my private practice, I specialize in working with the transgender and non-binary community: adults, teens and children who identify as transgender and parents with a child or adult child who identifies as transgender or non-binary. While trans identified individuals face many of the same challenges as cisgender people, such as depression, anxiety and relationship concerns, I am also aware of the challenges unique to transgender and non-binary people and their loved ones including discrimination, stigma, rejection, and oppression.

There are many reasons why life can feel stressful or overwhelming, and leaving you wondering what you can do to help manage these feelings. Therapy is a safe space where you can come and feel supported in growing to reach your goals and become the best and happiest version of yourself. I believe that everyone is capable of growth given the right support and that each individual is the expert on their own life and experiences. It is my roles as the therapist to meet each client where they are at and give them the support and guidance they need in order to achieve their goals.

Let's work together to make sense of those people-pleasing tendencies, those situations when you let anger mask your feelings of fear, and the actions you default to when you feel uncomfortable in social situations. Oftentimes, reactive behaviors are learned in early childhood as a defense mechanism. You learned certain actions will keep the physical and emotional pain away. However, you are not a child anymore and you are noticing how those learned actions are now negatively impacting you.

It is wonderful that you decided to begin the process of finding a therapist. I think that it is vital that you find someone that is a good fit for you. It is important to create an environment that is free of judgment so that you can feel safe expressing yourself. The way we form our identity is complex, many roles play a factor including our environment, family history, current relationships, and lifestyle. Through the journey of life, events both positive and painful help to mold us. The path of healing and exploration into yourself can lead to a stronger, happier, healthier you.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
