I work with adults and specialize in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders in women.
It's hard to ask for help, so you have taken a really good first step in finding help and feeling better. A significant piece of meaningful and effective therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. When it's the right fit, therapy can be a wonderful part of your life and can lead to feeling more grounded, confident and empowered. I am grateful to be in this work. It is a privilege to hear the stories of my clients and be a part of their journey.

I also have experience working with perinatal health and postpartum issues and have training from the Postpartum Support International (PSI).
Taking the time and energy to reflect and change is difficult, and it is a privilege for me to part of that process with you! I believe that everyone deserves and is able to achieve peace within themselves, with their bodies, and with their relationship with food. This means no more dieting. No more hatred towards your body. And no more "good and bad" foods. Body acceptance and eating intuitively without shame is possible. While my approach is eclectic and based on your needs and goals, it is always relational, person-centered, and goal oriented in an effort for you to feel better...with some humor mixed in as well!

As a parent of two children, I understand the importance of maternal mental health and I enjoy supporting women through the process of conception, pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.
Whether you are getting ready to be a first time parent or have five kids, motherhood is not easy and getting support is essential. Stress can start from the time you first try to conceive and continue all throughout your parenting journey.

I am an active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and I am a certified Perinatal Mental Health Professional (PMH-C).
Infertility is a disease. And similar to other serious medical conditions, the crisis of infertility can have a lasting impact on your emotional health. Infertility can result in significant feelings of loss: loss of control, loss of expectations, loss of your sense of self. And you may feel all alone, even if you have a supportive partner. You may experience a roller coaster of emotions with every passing month, with every doctor visit, and with every pregnancy and birth announcement from friends and family and on social media. Your emotions are valid. And you deserve support.

An ideal client for me is someone who has difficulty managing their emotions, engages in frequent negative thinking, and has trouble communicating their needs with family and friends. They want to decrease their anxious or depressive behaviors but have little knowledge of how to begin regulating their emotions.

Are you dealing with life transitions and trying to find yourself? Are you trying to break the cycle and begin the process of learning to be vulnerable and self-reflect? Are you committed to “showing up”? You may have difficulty finding independence in your unhealthy family dynamics and are working on finding a sense of self outside your relationships. You have dealt with anxiety and negative thoughts and no longer want these issues to hold you back.

Currently booking for JULY. I am honored and privileged to join my clients on their journeys. A successful therapy experience is two-sided: a high level of motivation and commitment on your part, along with my experience, expertise and support. My clients tend to be ready and willing to take deep dives inward to explore themselves. Examining perspectives can lead to deeper understanding and thus allow you to make the shifts you desire in all areas of your life, including your relationships. As life is a series of relationships, the relationship between therapist and client(s) is one that can be a springboard for growth.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
