To my future clients, Hello and Blessings. Thank you for your consideration to begin the process for H.E. R. (Healing Empowering Resilience). Your power to take the initial step and seek therapy, demonstrates that you’re worthy to be connected to a safe, unbiased, and therapeutic environment which will provide you the chance to process your experiences, emotions, and energy to initiate healing. Therapy matters! It’s time to end the stigma and negative perceptions and incorporate healing in all aspects of your life with a therapist that can relate and identify with your core self.

I use evidence-based practices, and am informed by cognitive-behavioral and attachment theories, as well as a mind-body connection.
I help people who are confused by their emotions to develop a sense of control and safety in exploring their thoughts, memories and feelings. I work with people who have experienced sexual/physical/emotional abuse in childhood, or assault in adulthood, community violence, gender violence or incarceration; and who find it hard to control anger, sadness, mood swings, stress, to trust themselves, others or have close relationships. I believe that honest, compassionate discussion lets you approach what you might want to ignore, but won’t go away; or explore what might not have space to be said with friends or family.

I utilize evidence-based practices and am trained in Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills, Prolonged-Exposure Therapy for trauma-informed care and Family-Based Therapy (FBT) for adolescents struggling with an eating disorder.
Welcome! I'm glad you're here. Have you ever heard of the phrase, "if it's not broken, don't fix it?" Sometimes, we may feel like we need to be fixed. As a therapist, I encourage my clients to come as they are. I enjoy getting to meet individuals in their life journey and I offer a warm, open, and safe space for therapy. I believe in collaborating with my clients to create solutions together; not to "fix" them, but to enhance their skills, provide encouragement, and support them in building confidence to live their life to the fullest potential. I work with both individual clients and families seeking services.

I follow the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis along with incorporating CBT interventions into therapy as well.
"The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination." These are wise words from Carl Rogers, one of my biggest influences. My approach with clients comes from years of direct work with children, adolescents, families, and adults. Providing a safe and welcoming atmosphere is what I strive for as we create a therapeutic alliance and work through difficulties that you are facing. We will work together and address your concerns by focusing on your strengths and setting up goals that we will achieve with evidence-based practices.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
