My ideal client is interested in growth and change. I work with individuals who are seeking to better understand themselves, process their experiences, and heal from hurt. Mental health is health. Most of us have not been taught to think critically about our life experiences, emotions, and triggers, we're simply just reacting and not understanding why we're struggling. In my practice, I work with people to make connections, heal from past hurts, and understand their feelings. I specialize in working with women, but provide services to men and folks anywhere across the gender spectrum.

Our busy lives can have unexpected changes that send us into challenging mindsets. Sometimes out friends, family, or partners just don't get what we're going through, and it can be difficult to even get out of bed in the morning. The voice in our head might tell us that we're not good enough, that it's not worth talking about what pains us deeply. You ARE worth challenging that voice in your head, and it is worth is to heal from our past to ensure our present and future are prosperous.

Sometimes it can feel difficult navigating through life on our own. Sometimes we can feel low, lost, and like no one is really hearing us. You do not have to endure this alone anymore. Being here, you’ve already started your journey, and I am here to help guide you through this journey, side by side. I have 8+ years of experience within the field of psychology, and through Northwestern University's CMHC program, AMHCA/ACA memberships, and CSI-NUO presidency, continue to enhance my experiences and specializations with human sexuality and identity, trauma, relationships, grief, and issues surrounding LGBTQIA+.

Kudos for taking this first step toward starting your therapeutic journey. Choosing a therapist is a very personal and can sometimes be a confusing process. I work to establish a safe, judgement-free environment where you feel heard. I utilize an integrative approach drawing from internal family systems, psychodynamic, EMDR, feminist, and strengths-based practices, tailoring to and honoring the unique needs of each client.

The world can be deeply cruel to many people, so I use a feminist and social-justice lens to understand the link between the nature of a person's pain and the oppressive systems they live within.
People often come to therapy with a precise problem to address, and sometimes people come to therapy with a general sense that they are not living their lives in a way that feels right or true. Therapy is useful in many circumstances; it’s an opportunity to understand and change painful patterns, to treat a mental health disorder, to heal from previous trauma, to process the impact of oppression, to mobilize oneself when feeling “stuck," and so much more. Whatever your reason for seeking treatment, I believe that therapy can help you create a life that holds more joy, connection, and purpose.

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
