I enjoy working with clients who want to get to the root of their struggles. These clients would like to gain insight into their symptoms, something difficult that has happened to them or to explore cycles and patterns that aren’t serving them. The clients I see often have attended therapy in the past. The clients I see also often present with attachment-based traumas, symptoms of post-traumatic stress, and difficulties in their personal and work relationships.

I draw from a variety of evidence-based techniques, but some of my favorite techniques include EMDR, Mindfulness and Somatic techniques, and Attachment-Based Therapy.
If you have felt that you're "too much" or held yourself back for fear of judgment - if you've been carrying something heavy that always gets in your way - you're in the right place! Our sessions will be a radically open and honest space for you to consider how you can show up in your life as your authentic self, and to work through the obstacles together. No matter what brings you to therapy, my goal is for us to build a relationship where you can dig deeper into yourself and face the things that hold you back. Change is hard work; we'll take it at your pace, and make sure that you have safety and support along the way.

Allow me to be your guide and help you move towards healing through a combination of ego state therapy, attachment-based interventions, and EMDR therapy.
Have you tried talk therapy without significant results? Have you watched the videos, read the books, listened to the podcasts, and still you are suffering or finding it hard to change or maintain change? Traditional talk therapy may have not worked for you because you cannot talk to the part of the brain that holds the memories that are “the roots” of your symptoms and pain. Growing up, you may have not had all your needs met consistently, resulting in challenges when you attempt to get close, or maintain closeness, with others. All humans have a universal need to feel safe, secure, and to be understood. You deserve to have that.

Vulnerability. It's a word that sounds all motivating and "Hell yeah!" when Brene Brown talks about it, but when it comes to actually DOING it, it terrifies you. In order to get to the root of what's causing your discomfort, I'm going to ask you to get vulnerable. I'm going to ask you to share your story (no, the real story) with me. But you don't have to do it alone. I want to help you move from SURVIVING to THRIVING. I want you to FINALLY start living the life you've imagined. It doesn't have to be "someday". It can be now. And I can help.

Between what society and those around you say, you constantly feel like you are not enough. You are feeling lost in the world and so badly want to feel grounded for once, but have no idea where to start or where it's even safe to begin navigating that. What you are experiencing is so multi-layered that it leaves you feeling stuck. My passion is helping other people to truly find themselves by unraveling layers of trauma, societal expectations, and negativity imposed by others. I want to help you figure out how to be truly, wholly yourself and live a life that encompasses your values and beliefs.

Whether you are coming to therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, a life change, or just a general sense of unease, facing these issues can be scary. Healing isn’t easy because it involves confronting our pain and hurts. Healing can also be full of joy, hope, connection, and freedom as we experience new possibilities of being and relating. My approach is warm, relational, and integrative. I strive to offer a space where you can feel safe enough to look inward – to gently and compassionately welcome all parts of yourself with less judgment and shame.

I have a passion for connecting with my clients on an interpersonal level. My counseling philosophy is that therapy should first and foremost be a safe space for you to express any of your emotions and experiences. I pride myself in being a non-judgmental and receptive counselor. I practice a relaxed therapy style that focuses on processing and emotion identification with a trauma-informed approach. I also include CBT and DBT skills where appropriate. I enjoy adding non-verbal approaches to processing, including the use of play, art, and creative expression.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
