At Pause Counseling Services, the aim is just that - to give you the chance to take a pause in your day and focus on healing and meeting your needs. This is especially needed for adults with ADHD and Autism, as well as individuals facing difficult challenges and/or adversity. The demands of life often force us to ignore or suppress our struggles. This can be a place where those external demands get momentarily shut down and you can feel free to explore your own wants, needs, and goals. Megan approaches therapy from a biopsychosocial lens, understanding that multiple factors blend together to make us who we are.

The behaviors and emotions of grief, loss, and trauma are complex. Healing in mind, body, and spirit can be accomplished through traditional and spiritual counseling as well as guided meditation, spiritual structure, and goal setting. When clients are experiencing an inability to move forward, find it difficult to come to terms with life, cannot balance emotions and spirit, are enduring high levels of anxiety and stress, and are recognizing that their energy levels and physical body strength are at risk, the counseling of Dr. Marshall, an experienced counselor who uses Judeo-Christian and Buddhist principles can help heal.

My focus includes trauma-informed therapy for LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent individuals. I primarily work with adolescents and young adults. I utilize evidence-based, affirming practices to support my clients in processing trauma, regulating mood instability, improving relationships, coping with life transitions, and building confidence in themselves. For folx that may benefit from something a bit different than traditional talk therapy, I like to incorporate a variety of activities to support the therapeutic process. This can include walk and talk or outdoor therapy, art, or play.

I strongly believe that all people have the ability to live their best life when given the opportunity and the right tools for them. Each journey is just as unique as the individual who embarks on it. The work I do with clients is person centered, motivationally driven, and tailored to meet the needs of each person no matter where they are on their therapeutic journey. Whether this is your first time seeking therapy, or have decided to try again, I would be honored to meet you where you are and guide you toward reaching your personal goals.

Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or out of control? Are your worries preventing you from doing the things you love? If so, you are not alone. Anxiety can make you feel worry, fear, anger, and shame. The good news is, you do not have to travel the road to recovery alone. There is hope and you can get better! “Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone” – Lisa Olivera.

Sometimes life beats us down, and sometimes we can’t leave our past behind. As we travel though the changes and challenges in our journey on this earth it may be hard to ask for help. Your strengths can be uncovered when you are able to reach out to someone who can understand, and has the experience to guide you along that road. A Bachelors Degree in Human Services from Geneva College, a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University Pittsburgh, holding a Pennsylvania State Board License as a Clinical Social Worker, and my certification in Trauma From Evergreen can help.

Are you having trouble managing your thoughts? Feeling sad or uncertain about your future? Let's chat a little more. Therapy provides an opportunity for self-care, time to work through things that may be preventing you from living a meaningful life, and offer ways to overcome barriers, difficult times, or uncomfortable situations. My goal in therapy is to guide individuals to gain a better understanding of themselves through increased self-awareness. I plan to help individuals understand how they relate to others and navigate their interpersonal relationships within their lives and environments.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
