With concrete skills, acceptance, growth and meaning can begin to heal the past. By understanding the painful narratives we sometimes unconsciously reinforce, we can start to let go of the hurt related to addiction, depression and anxiety.

In addition to my licensure as a professional counselor, I am also certified as an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor and have extensive experience working with people with substance use issues, eating disorders, and other compulsive behaviors.
Life is a journey that can be both deeply beautiful and profoundly challenging. Along the way, we all go through rough patches. Anxiety, self-doubt, and despair can leave us feeling lost and afraid. Though these experiences may frighten us, they also offer us opportunities for healing and growth if we have the courage to listen to them and learn from them. I am a warm and caring psychotherapist who will provide an atmosphere of safety, compassion, and non-judgmental support as you engage in this process.

My goal as your therapist is to help you be the happiest version of yourself. I believe we all need to work on ourselves on a daily basis to improve our lives and our outlook. The day to day struggles of life, work, family, friends and finding the balance is a challenge that we all endure. While you may be in need of therapy to help with clinically diagnosed conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and many others, you might also be a healthy individual looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation and desire to move in a new direction in your life.

The connection one makes with their therapist is what makes or breaks the progress that can be made in therapy. I pride myself in my ability to connect with my clients. If you feel you can’t seem to find the right connection for yourself or your child, I’m the guy to call! I don't treat a diagnosis, disability, or disorder...I treat people. I believe anyone and everyone can benefit from the therapeutic process, if they put the necessary work in. Remember, a healthy mind can have a global impact on one's emotional and physical well being.

As humans, we’re all wired for connection, but unfortunately, many of us did not get our most basic emotional needs met in our early development. Do you find yourself struggling with interpersonal relationships, effective communication, or emotional regulation? Have you experienced traumatic or stressful events that have left you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unable to move forward in your life? Do you find yourself coping in unhealthy ways such as codependent behaviors, self-harm, substance use or isolation?

I specialize in working with clients who struggle with co-occurring disorders, Bipolar Disorders, and substance use disorders.
I work alongside my clients to help them feel seen and heard, achieve their goals, and live their best possible lives. It is very important to me that I provide a place that feels safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive, which is the foundation of therapy and helps facilitate change. The goals that people work on in therapy can involve anything that is important to them- learning healthier ways to express anger, finding new ways to cope with the effects of past traumas, stabilizing mood episodes (e.g., mania, depression), maintaining and establishing sobriety, improving their relationship with themself and others, and more.

I would like to walk with you away from pain and addiction through new ways of thinking and being.
Are you grieving and dealing with change? Do you need help navigating anxiety around loss or life changes, even if they're positive ones? The ideal client is anyone who acknowledges they are open to change. As Yogi Berra famously said, "Ninety percent of this game is half mental, the other half is physical." Openness to thinking in new ways and then backing that up with new behaviors is crucial to successful change.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
