Adlerian Therapists in Quakertown, PA
I use a therapeutic approach grounded in mindfulness strategies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Adlerian empowering techniques.
Life can be overwhelming and draining. Especially when you are grieving the loss of a part of yourself or a loved one who has died. We grieve the loss of relationships, friendships, people, and experiences. Please know that grief has no time limit; you just need to learn how to live in a new way. Life will never be easy, but it may become easier. Traumatic experiences effect people in different ways throughout their lives. Now is the time to reach out if you suffered a trauma and are looking to process how that trauma may now be affecting you. Lastly, families go through changes and each transition requires a new set of skills.

Are you experiencing depression/anxiety, career issues, substance use issues, relationship issues, and familial issues? Your needs may include identifying and implementing new ways of coping, exploring career options, finding a treatment facility, or acquiring new insights regarding your spouse/family member. A client would work with me to address areas in their life that are contributing to stressors.

Are you a young adult dealing primarily with anxiety and life transition issues? This could be a recent college graduate starting their first big job, a major transition. I like walking beside them through these transitions and being an additional support. I also like helping people learn breathing techniques to manage anxiety and learn about polyvagal theory and a bottom-up approach. I enjoy working with clients who can articulate their goals, such as managing anxiety better and working on anxiety in different settings.

It’s okay to ask for guidance along your self-improvement journey, and Lehigh Valley Counselors are here to help. Prioritizing your well-being is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

To me, counseling is about management; management of relationships with others, the relationship you have with yourself, management of anxiety and everyday stressors. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I incorporate a variety of treatment modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing. However, I take an eclectic approach to understanding each individual client by utilizing Adlerian Theory in addition to CBT. I also believe that physical health has strong implications for mental health and it is important to treat both.

I utilize an integrative and client-centered approach combining Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Family Systems, Adlerian, Existential, and Narrative therapies along with Motivational Interviewing to help clients pursue the change and motivation necessary to achieve their personal life goals, and restore functionality to their everyday lives and relationships.
Everyone has a lens through which we view the world created by our unique experiences, struggles, triumphs, and diverse cultural languages, but so often we feel as if we lack the voice to express our true selves and needs to others. We struggle to find the courage to live authentically in a world that often doesn’t understand or validate our humanity, empathy, and sense of self. As we find self-empowerment, we can come together to empower our families, communities, and ultimately our world as a united whole to meet the challenges we face as human beings. Therapy can help overcome past trauma to help us live fully in the present.

Adlerian Therapists
How does Adlerian psychology work?
In the framework of Adlerian therapy, people are motivated by a sense of belonging and community, which drives them to surmount feelings of inferiority so as to contribute to their society; fulfilling these desires can help people flourish. Adlerian therapy proceeds in four stages—engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation—in an overall effort to understand the client’s past and to achieve their present-day humanistic goals.
Is Adlerian therapy humanistic?
Yes, Adlerian psychology is humanistic; it focuses on the whole person, emphasizes their strengths rather than just their symptoms, and centers them in determining how they can grow and flourish. This school of thought informed the work of Abraham Maslow, who went on to develop humanistic psychology.
How long does Adlerian therapy take?
Adlerian therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented form of therapy that takes around 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Of course, some people may be in therapy for a shorter or longer time frame; length depends on the individual and the problem or condition they wish to treat. Clients can ask their therapist about the timeline for treatment before they begin and check in periodically to ensure that they’re on the same page in terms of progress.
Is Adlerian therapy evidence based?
There is not as much evidence to support the effectiveness of Adlerian therapy as there is for other types of therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. But Adlerian therapy may be the right therapy for some people—whether they’re seeking to treat mental disorders or achieve self-growth—especially those looking for a holistic approach that emphasizes relationships, community, self-worth, and purpose.
