I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Approach, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Culturally Sensitive Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Strength Focused Approach.
“Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved”, said by Winnie the Pooh. I received both of my master’s degrees at University of Pennsylvania in 2016 and 2017. I specialize in high functioning anxiety, depression, unleveled self-esteem, stress management, and helping individuals coming from various ethnic, cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds balance cross-cultural negotiations and aspects of identities. If you are seeking the strength in your authentic self, ability to handle "imperfections" and "insecurities" with unconditional love, and create structures for multilayered emotions, I am one email away

“I feel like I'm stuck in the past." "I don't know how to make sense of what's happened to me." “I don’t know who I am.” Sound familiar? If you've ever said these words to yourself (I know I certainly have), I invite you on a journey of discovering who you are beyond what you've had to do to survive; to turn toward your inner wisdom and strengths; to build connection with yourself and with others; and to recognize your self-value and self-worth as differentiated from what you do and what’s happened to you.

Hi! My name is Elif, and I am a pre-licensed psychotherapist at StoneBridge Counseling. I completed my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University. As a Mental Health Counselor, my aim is to create an environment filled with support and safety for self-exploration and growth toward healing and change. I believe that every individual is an expert of themselves. This is why I focus on working together in a more person-centered approach. From infancy to adulthood, I am here to form a safe therapeutic space for everyone knocking on my door.

Stress, worry, anxiety- It sucks. Like an unwelcome guest that just won't leave. It's paralyzing. You find yourself under pressure to make the right decisions and keep it all together all the time. That voice inside your head keeps nagging, "Why can't I just be 'normal' and stop worrying? Why is everything so hard?" You may carry the mental load of the household or feel like there's no time. On the outside, things may seem perfectly fine, but inside, it's a different story. Life feels like an impossible maze with all this self-doubt, constant worry, and the weight of expectations. You know you're capable, but it feels out of reach.

I am here to offer supportive/empathic counseling services in collaboration with adolescents, adults and families who've experienced a series of adverse life events. My belief is that people do the best they can to heal. Life can be challenging and I want to support you and understand things from your perspective. What happened? My goal is to offer a safe space for you to freely express who you are, share your life experiences and to support you as you own your truth. Something happened, life became complicated and hard to deal with alone. You've been trying to manage on your own but it’s been difficult. I'm here to support you.

We started this practice because we love what we do, helping people grow. Here at Blue Creek, we offer individual, couples and family therapy. We serve children, teens, adults and older adults. In addition, we offer comprehensive psychological testing services. We bring decades of collective experience but have different areas of expertise. However, our one common goal is for you to feel welcomed and understood from the moment you make contact.

Through my practice, You First Counseling, I help motivated individuals work through anxiety, perfectionism, grief, gender dysphoria, relational issues, trauma symptoms, and more. But to work on those things, I'm finding that people need space to fully (for at least one hour) put themselves first; to know that their time is theirs, and to have someone help hold their struggles.

Whether you are coming to therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, a life change, or just a general sense of unease, facing these issues can be scary. Healing isn’t easy because it involves confronting our pain and hurts. Healing can also be full of joy, hope, connection, and freedom as we experience new possibilities of being and relating. My approach is warm, relational, and integrative. I strive to offer a space where you can feel safe enough to look inward – to gently and compassionately welcome all parts of yourself with less judgment and shame.

As a counselor, I have always been aware of the courage and openness a client needs to be able to seek support and engage in counseling services. I also understand how difficult it is to make therapeutic changes in one's life. I am humbled to be privileged to learn about a client's intimate struggles, and I take the depth of that relationship of respect, privacy, boundaries, and expectations very seriously. My ideal client is anyone open to counseling, receiving feedback, and willing to work together on developing action steps towards change and personal growth.

I am accepting clients ranging from fourteen years of age and older. I work with individuals, families, and couples. Although I have experience treating an eclectic range of concerns, ideally, my clients may be facing symptoms of anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and PTSD. At nPSYGHT, we emphasize the use of psychotherapy, while supplementing it with medication as needed and at minimum effective doses. We incorporate neuropsychotherapeutic concepts whenever possible, meaning we recognize that advances in our understanding of how the brain works can inform how psychotherapy can be conducted. We stress the importance of general good health habits - diet, exercise, sleep, relaxation methods (meditation, yoga, tai chi) - in promoting mental and behavioral well-being.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
