Are you "worrying" often? Do you feel uncomfortable in social settings? Feeling sad, frustrated/angry and having difficulty managing it? Are you a parent concerned about your child's behavior? Or in a relationship/marriage that is unfulfilling or not what it use to be? Is your family not accepting of your life choices? Counseling is a great opportunity to work through long standing concerns or just talk about what is going on in your life right now.

My approach in therapy is to work as a team with you to make the discomfort you are going through become more manageable. Your discomfort may not disappear, but I can help you navigate these feelings. I aim to empower you to feel more in control of your response to the struggles of life. I am very solutions focused. In order to feel different, we have to try something different. I offer psychoeducation, suggest different coping skills and will point out the patterns of behavior/choices in your life and how they are impacting you. I really enjoy helping those who struggle with perfectionism and people pleasing behaviors.

Because no one therapy model works for all people, I like to integrate my training in bottom-up models (EMDR, Somatic Therapy) with models that provide concrete skills to promote an internal sense of safety and security ( DBT, ACT).
Many of us go through life carrying limiting beliefs and behaviors that seem to sabotage our efforts to grow and connect with others. I believe these patterns are not disorders to be cured, but ways our mind and body have adapted to survive. For many, these patterns involve anxiety, depression, anger, and addiction. Our task in therapy involves identifying these ineffective patterns and collaborating to rewrite them, one small action at a time. This leads to growth, healing, and ultimately, self-acceptance.

I have specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT) and Motivational Interviewing, and employ mindfulness based approaches.
The choice to start therapy can be a difficult one. Sometimes life’s greatest challenges also present opportunities for transformation. My desire is to provide a safe and comfortable space where that can occur. Psychotherapy can be a wonderful process to take much needed time for yourself. The world throws a lot at us. I believe therapy needs to be a conversation-tailored to each persons individual needs. Collaboration is key and my goal is to help my clients learn skills and strategies to increase coping and find peace. I also believe that change is possible for every person. My pronouns are she/her.

I provide trauma informed treatment and use many modalities including EMDR, DBT, CBT, ACT, and mind-mapping.
Book with me now by clicking on my website. I have a firm belief that “Everyone is doing the best they can, with what they have.” You are using your resources and the skills that you currently have to the best of your current ability. Therapy provides more resources and skills; this allows for more opportunities to make different choices. Learning a new skill or seeing a different perspective can be the key to unlock the potential that you currently have but have not been able to use. It is important to look at therapy as a learning experience and a way to have support in attempting new ways of living.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
