If you are experiencing stress with everyday life, struggling with identity development, interested in parenting support, or simply need someone to be a sounding board, I would be a great fit. I strive to create a warm, relaxed, environment where clients can share whatever is on their minds, and we can address each concern one by one. Initially I will get to know you and what brings you to therapy. We will then begin exploring any issues that are interfering with your daily life. It is my hope that through our counseling sessions, you will feel safe to grow, develop new skills, and be a more authentic you.

To my future clients, wow I'm so glad you've crossed my page. I'm not sure what it took to get to this point, but I am sure glad you did. I could give you the long spill of why I think this process is helpful and enlightening, but I won't. What I will tell you is; you are capable, you are strong, you are resilient and going through the psychotherapy process I hope you discover that too! You deserve to be seen, to feel valued and to be heard. Life has a way of knocking the wind out of you and causing you to question your existence. Resilience is one thing we all share; the capability of getting back up and breathe again. Breathe.

Everyone has their capacity for happiness and I want to help you find it. Happiness comes from creating connection to ourselves, our environments, our purpose, and others. I help adults looking for assistance in improving their lives and breaking through old patterns of behaviors. I help those looking for direction, purpose, and answers to questions about their experiences. People ask themselves why they keep having the same things happen over and over in their life, I can help figure out those patterns and help to eliminate them so that you can move forward.

My approach to Psychotherapy is warm, inviting, and strength based. I believe that each individual has a unique journey and story that needs to be told. My goal is to foster a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship that will allow for those individuals to tell their story in a safe and welcoming environment, without the fear or worry of being judged. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as Person Centered Therapy to incorporate an environment of humor and all around feeling of comfort, about the changes being made in one's life with each completed goal.

Effective therapy depends on a match between the client and therapist. Our first goal in therapy is to determine if the relationship is a good fit. Pay attention to your comfort level, with me. When you work with me, everything that comes up is important. You may know what issues you want to work on, or you may not. Maybe there is someone or something you have been meaning to grieve. Perhaps you have a gut feeling that it's time to reach out for help. Maybe there are things you haven't told anyone, and would like to. Maybe, you need a supportive person to listen. Therapy is not always about fixing or changing anything.

I love working with individuals and groups who have experienced relationship or systems-based trauma, whether in childhood or adulthood. This can include physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, financial, spiritual, or systemic traumas and may be the result of abusive relationships or living as a marginalized individual in an inadequate and even harmful system. I believe that the "symptoms" associated with trauma don't occur because there is "something wrong with you." Rather, I believe that they are evidence of your body and mind's inherent wisdom and ability to establish safety and sovereignty over your own life.

I view the foundation of therapy as a trusting and supportive relationship. Given my own diverse identity, I deeply appreciate the significance of building trust with healthcare providers. My core interests include understanding how we form and maintain habits, the process of unlearning patterns that no longer serve us, and building new ones. This passion drives my commitment to helping individuals make meaningful changes in their lives.

Accepting New Clients. I believe that therapy is a co-created process meant to bring awareness within ourselves and our relationships to create meaningful change. I believe that everyone has the natural capacity to have a fulfilling and desired quality of life. Healing comes into play to meet life’s obstacles so that growth and integration can happen. I look at relative trauma as well as the impact of larger systems. I use mind-body awareness practices to help bring alignment within authentic self. I work to bring non-judgment and trust as transformation occurs.

I am a family therapist who works with individuals, couples and families. I focus my practice on helping individuals improve their important relationships - with their children, with their spouses or with a significant other and with their parents. Helping clients with work relationships is also a significant part of my practice. I've facilitated sessions with several generations of married couples within one family. Important relationships influence a person's emotional and physical states, resulting in some cases in extreme distress. When people reduce their sensitivity to others, they can make dramatic improvements in directing their own emotional and physical wellbeing.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
