When you’re looking for a therapist, one of the most important things is finding someone with whom you can develop a safe, healthy, and trusting relationship. I believe that it is in the context of this kind of relationship, that healing, growth, and learning occur. I’ve had a rich and varied career working as a psychologist and training doctoral students in a range of settings including an inpatient hospital, a clinic for families living with HIV, in community mental health clinics, and in private practice.

I have particular interest in trauma, identity questioning and development, and relationship concerns.
I view psychotherapy as a collaborative experience between therapist and patient. I see my role as that of a space holder and guide. I will shed light on and explore what may be causing difficulty in your life, provide affirmation, and offer tools that will help sustain your therapeutic goals. I believe that transformation and change can evolve through collaboration and the development of a renewed narrative that is validating and hopeful.

Welcome! Chances are, you have tried your best using various strategies to feel better before seeking out psychotherapy. However, there may be times during a person’s life where professional help is needed to help someone feel unstuck. Therapy is collaborative work between a client and a therapist with goals such as reducing suffering and improving quality of life. As a clinical psychologist, I specialize in helping clients work through anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, difficulty with communication, and stress management. My approach to therapy stems from a humanistic and psychodynamic orientation.

Because you will be putting a good deal of time, money, and energy into therapy, you should choose a therapist carefully. I believe you should feel comfortable with the therapist you choose, and hopeful about the therapy process. When you feel this way, therapy is more likely to be helpful to you. I have more than 20 years helping people work through grief and loss, life transitions, relationship struggles, career indecision, anxiety and depression. In addition, I have considerable experience helping individuals struggling with issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

I center curiosity, compassion, and consistency to build a relationship where you may feel safe, supported, understood, and accepted.
Our painful experiences and the conditions of our society often push us to disconnect from our authentic selves, relationships, communities, and the world around us. I view healing as a process of reconnection. In our work together, we will aim to make sense of your story, explore all the parts of you that make you who you are, and work through places where you feel stuck. Through this process, my hope is that you can live your life with more agency and authenticity, more skills and tools to manage the challenges, and more capacity to experience ease, connection, and the full range of human emotions.

I enjoy working with artists, activists, writers, teachers, spiritual seekers, fellow social workers and therapists, queer and trans people, people in non-monogamous relationship styles, neurodivergent people, people with chronic illness, teens and/or their parents, and anyone interested in exploring the experience of being alive on this earth.
Do you feel stuck in patterns that lead to disappointment and hurt? Have you tried to makes changes, but they don't last? Many of us were conditioned into survival strategies that separate us from ourselves. This separation can create the belief that there is something wrong with us, as though we are unworthy or unlovable, leading to cycles of shame, numbing, anger, fear, and grief. I use internal family systems therapy to create a space for compassion and curiosity that allows these feelings to be explored and held. This process can help you to move beyond stagnant patterns of hurt that limit your growth, potential, and love.

I believe movement begins with a mutual investment in the therapeutic relationship.
Over the last 14 years, I’ve had the joy and privilege of working with folks as they make meaning of their lives. I work with people who want to experience more inner peace and less anxiety. While not a requirement, I see long term therapeutic work as a vehicle for building a consistent, stable relationship. My clients have the experience of being known, understood and seen. Through our invested relationship, we can practice new ways of being and bring in new patterns of thought, behavior and feeling. Once trust and knowledge has been built, we'll collaborate on how to better move through pain points in your life.

As a therapist, I am keenly interested in one's early life experiences and the nature of their relationships – especially the relationship with oneself.
I am a psychodynamically-trained, interpersonally-oriented, and existentially curious practitioner. The therapy that I practice is relational in nature — I aim to work both through the lens of relationships and in relationship with patients. I am of the belief that what arises through therapeutic process is equally as important as the therapeutic outcomes.

I am experienced in treating various relationship issues: parents, spouse, partner (gay or straight), family members, coworkers, boss, friends.
It's not easy to find the right psychotherapist. You want someone who is empathic while remaining professional, intuitive as well as smart, compassionate without sacrificing competence, warm but able to remain clear and focused. Someone you "click" with, someone you can trust and have confidence in, someone who will be your ally in figuring out the puzzle that is you. With over 30 years' experience as a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Center City Philadelphia, I may be the psychotherapist you seek. I specialize in treating individual adults and couples with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, or life transitions.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
