I understand therapy as a journey of self and I feel privileged to be part of the process. I specialize in trauma and intimate partner violence; I have extensive experience working with both survivors and partners who have acted harmfully. I also acknowledge how our cultural backgrounds can complicate our understanding of ourselves and our relationships. I work with clients with multicultural identities who struggle with intergenerational conflict, guilt, loneliness, among other difficulties. As a Latina myself, I bring my personal experience and empathy to this work.

My approach incorporates kindness, integrity, and agency while examining context from a multicultural and trauma-informed lens.
The state of the world coupled with interpersonal or interrelational struggles can make therapy daunting, but you don't need me to tell you that. I understand and respect the uniqueness of human experience, and I emphasize this in approach, pace, and content of sessions to work best for you and your needs. My goal is that you leave each session feeling better prepared for your world. I have experience working with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals, those in ENM or polyamorous relationships, neurodivergent individuals, and those struggling with anxiety disorders, depression, identity development, and/or body image.

As a Chinese, I have been naturally drawn to the study of systemic therapy, particularly in the context of multicultural issues.
Are you feeling stuck in your relationships with your partner, family, and colleagues? Are you feeling powerless sometimes? Do you feel like you're never good enough in your relationships, your family, your job? Do you feel lonely even though you are in a relationship? You are not alone. As human being, we all share foundation needs: to connect to people, to feel loved and valued, and be able to love ourselves and others. Sometimes we just get lost in survival patterns developed by trauma and daily stress.

As a therapist, I believe in using an integrative, multicultural, intersectional approach wherein my clients are welcome to explore difficult or private subjects including self-image, trauma, relationships, and a variety of other topics.
I am a relational therapist who emphasizes a social justice approach to my work. I believe that to truly, deeply understand ourselves, we must look at the larger context within which we operate. In the therapy room, I strive to support you as you explore your own history and identity with curiosity, warmth, and care. I apply a trauma-informed lens to provide affirming care, as I believe that a respectful, supportive relationship is a key aspect of facilitating growth and self-acceptance. I am especially effective at working with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and ASD, alongside life transitions and gender and sexuality explorations.

I believe that multicultural awareness is a must rather than an afterthought.
While starting therapy can seem intimidating or daunting, I want you to know that you always deserve to take up space in therapy. I aim to help clients uncover the strengths they already possess. My work with clients involves the following: celebrating culture, acknowledging marginalization & privilege, multiracial identities, interracial couples, navigating cishet-white spaces, balancing conflicting expectations, processing current events, challenging anxious thoughts, separating me (the person) from anxiety (the fear and uncertainty), unpacking past events, reducing miscommunication, and feeling seen/heard.

Besides providing individual therapy (please see specialties), I am also trained and experienced to provide consultation and training for bilingual therapy and multicultural humanity to organizations or communities.
Making the decision to enter therapy can be stressful. Allow me to join and help you. I believe people are born to thrive. However, there are times our emotional suffering (stress, anger, depression, or anxiety) make us feel stuck. Just like the warning signs on the dashboard, our emotions inform us when there are things in life need our attention. It can be things within ourselves (such as, self-confidence or self-expectations) or things happened to us (such as, trauma or loss). My work is to give attention to where it is needed.

I specialize in working with young adults and adults who experience anxiety or depression and who want to find balance through the challenges that come with life transitions (e.g., surrounding relationships, work, parenthood, school). I am a multicultural counselor who believes that endogenous and exogenous factors can control people behavior.
The helping profession which is often referred to as therapy or counseling has been my life-long goal. My desire has made me a patient, attentive, and non-judgmental listener and has shaped my approach to understanding clients’ needs better. I am also supportive and seek positivity in every situation presented. I thrive to make clients feel safe including even reluctant clients to find their own way during treatment but also help clients to learn how to take personal responsibility to take charge of their behavior. I facilitate, encourage, empower, and help the client discover their potential.

Multicultural Therapists
What type of therapy is multicultural therapy?
Multicultural therapy is not tied to any specific therapy; rather, it is an overarching approach to therapy that aims to acknowledge and address the influence that factors like race, gender identity, and cultural background can have on someone’s life. Multicultural approaches can be applied to CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and others, and can be practiced with individuals, couples, families, or groups.
What can I expect from multicultural therapy?
Multicultural counseling should be tailored to the client’s unique identity and cultural needs. Such approaches often prioritize the building of trust so that the client feels comfortable exploring various aspects of their identity and any challenges caused by mismatches between their identity and the dominant culture. Beyond that, the format and timeline of therapy will be heavily influenced by the therapist’s preferred therapy approach and the specific problems for which the client sought therapy.
Can multicultural therapy help treat trauma?
Yes. Cultural factors such as racial background, gender identity and or sexuality, and immigration or refugee status can influence both whether someone experiences trauma and how they cope afterward. Multicultural approaches to trauma-informed care will be aware of these influences, helping the client recognize how their response to trauma may be shaped by their cultural background and identify coping mechanisms that take their identity into account.
What are the benefits of seeing a multicultural therapist?
Members of minority groups who seek therapy are sometimes frustrated by providers who don’t understand their cultural background or dismiss the ways in which race, gender, or other facets of their identity influence their lived experience. Seeing a multicultural therapist can help these clients feel seen, understood, and able to develop solutions to life challenges that take their upbringing, beliefs, and past experiences into account.
