My areas of specialty include grief, self-doubt, recovery from trauma and conflict resolution.
Whether you are feeling overwhelmed by the pressures of daily life, or held back by painful experiences from the past, you do not have to face life's challenges alone. I view therapy as a collaborative process which is built upon openness, understanding, and hope. I believe the most important relationship you have is with yourself. Therefore, my work with clients centers around developing a healthy sense of self in order to manage life’s difficulties more easily. My goal is to provide an environment where you will feel safe to express yourself, to be heard, to heal, and to explore the possibilities for making lasting changes.

In current times, we are experiencing much grief and loss in our lives.
Life's ups and downs are sometimes overwhelming and can impact one's mental and physical state. In a safe space, I gently challenge clients to work on becoming more self-aware, so they can break unhealthy patterns which affect how we see ourselves and others.

Our wounds, losses, and trauma can trap us in painful patterns of avoidance, anger, fear, sadness, guilt, and shame.
Whether you are coming to therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, a life change, or just a general sense of unease, facing these issues can be scary. Healing isn’t easy because it involves confronting our pain and hurts. Healing can also be full of joy, hope, connection, and freedom as we experience new possibilities of being and relating. My approach is warm, relational, and integrative. I strive to offer a space where you can feel safe enough to look inward – to gently and compassionately welcome all parts of yourself with less judgment and shame.

I have a background working with individuals who have experienced grief/ loss, suffer from severe mental health disorders, and deal with substance use. My ideal client would be aware that they need help. They are also prepared and open to doing the necessary work to address their issue. They understand that therapy is a process, not something that can be completed overnight. They understand that their previous methods have failed and are willing to try again with me.

I will empower you and hold space for you as you face what has been painful, unlearn patterns that no longer serve you, and honor your needs. I work primarily with adults who present a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief/ bereavement, stress management, college adjustment, and life transitions.
People decide to start therapy for a variety of reasons - depression and anxiety, ending of a relationship, a major life transition or self discovery, just to name a few. Whatever your personal reasons are to begin therapy, I believe that the process of therapy along with the therapeutic relationship serve as the vehicle to help you reach your goals. Based on your unique needs, we create a therapy treatment plan together. By creating a safe and non-judgmental space, I then work with you in a collaborative manner to help you identify your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and discover how these three influence each other.

I also work with clients struggling with complicated grief over the loss of a pet/companion animal as these losses are sometimes hard to grieve.
I think of the therapeutic relationship as a workshop where clients can plan, tinker, experiment, test, and refine parts of themselves, their relationships, and their lives with my unwavering support. It's a place and time where we can collaborate on what might need to change, what tools are necessary for the task, and on the ways it might begin to unfold. I create and hold a safe place for clients to ponder, practice, and consider change-- especially when they struggle to maintain that space for themselves. As a trauma informed practitioner, I am able to ground and contain intense affect to help clients feel held.

My areas of clinical specialization include emerging adulthood, working with first generation college students, gender & sexual identity exploration, and treating individuals with chronic mood disorders, coping with bereavement, losses and traumatic life experiences.
Anyone seeking psychotherapy needs to sense a therapist's ability to deeply connect, to foster real vulnerability, without feeling judged. Some people desire help during personal crises or from a wish to grow. Others recognize a need for therapy after feeling stuck. Therapy can address symptoms that are more chronic in nature, which interfere with relationships or life satisfaction. Some people look for short-term therapy, to focus quickly on solution-oriented work, while others may feel more confusion about where to begin, needing time and support to clarify complicated thoughts and feelings. Together, we will develop your goals.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
